Joseph Dunigan - Seattle Mariners

I am trying to figure out why this guy hasn't been mentioned in many discussions. The guy is a powerhouse and is tearing up High-A. He is even stealing bases. In addition, I believe he plays 1b and in Seattle he doesn't really have anyone blocking him, except maybe Mike Carp. He is getting older too. Why haven't they promoted him to AA or AAA? Any thoughts on this guy? Thanks.

you should probably temper your excitement a little bit

dunigan is tearing the league up, but he’s doing it while playing half his games in the most hitter friendly park in the most hitter friendly league.

which does beg that question; why doesn’t SEA move him up. the best guess i can hazard is that they want him to finish out this half of the season, and then they’ll move him up when the second half starts.

human beings, who are almost unique in their ability to learn from the experiences of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Maybe, maybe not.

Dunigan’s home stats are aided by a ludicrous .473 home BABIP. By contrast, on the road it’s about .160 points lower. I don’t know what’s involved there, but it is rather interesting to see.

Still, on the road he’s not bad, it just seems that way when he has nearly a 1.400 OPS at home.

Dunigan strikes out quite a bit

and is still not too old for the level. It is probably helpful for him to work on it at a level where he does not struggle as much to make contact. Dunigan has very good power and speed tools but neither are very refined.

A similar situation is playing out with Alex Liddi in High Deset also. There is little reason to rush either, let them suceed a level at a time. Just because Dunigan is an older college player does not mean he needs to be pressed forward.

I really like him

Tough to take any stats in CALI league seriously.
