Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Monday, August 15th edition of the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread. Here are some items worthy of your notice as the new workweek begins.
****New York Mets prospect Dominic Smith went 3-for-5 yesterday for Double-A Binghamton with a double and two RBI. He's been very hot lately, hitting .442 in his last 10 games, and now stands at .299/.354/.460 on the season with 13 homers, more than doubling his previous career high of six dingers.
****Oakland Athletics prospect and 2016 first-rounder A.J. Puk threw 3.2 scoreless innings for the Vermont Lake Monsters in the New York-Penn League yesterday, fanning eight. He's made seven starts now but has thrown just 20 innings due to a strict pitch count limit following his spring for the University of Florida. He has a 2.70 ERA in those 20 innings with a 27/6 K/BB and a mere 13 hits allowed.
****Minnesota Twins slugger Miguel Sano has been very hot lately. Nick Cicere at Beyond the Boxscore breaks down his hot August.
****Last Friday's Fringe Five prospect article by Carson Cistulli is always worth a look.
****Eno Sarris at The Hardball Times interviews Bill "Spaceman" Lee.
