wow
where to begin?
Bauer @ 36 seems awfully low. Alonso @ 98?? Rendon @ 56????? Banuelos @ 9? Bell @ 97?
I’m assuming this is all “results” driven as opposed to projection AND results. Some of these rankings are just making my shake my head.
by JoelGuzman'sScout on Jan 7, 2026 4:47 AM EST reply actions 1 recs
also
Travis D’Arnaud @ 43 seems entirely too low for a Catcher with his offensive ceiling.
Hicks @ 27???? I know Twins fans who don’t think that Hicks should be in the top 100 based on his stats (this was pre-AFL).
wow, this list is crazy.

11 LOL @ Joel calm down little buddy
I think you’re rush to judgement is unfornuate
There is a large group of Twins fans that think he’ll be better than Dominic Brown and a similar overall player.

Aaron Hicks will be a multiple time major league All-Star.
He has more tools than Home Depot.
He is so confident in his ability that he takes hittable pitches because he believes he will get a better one later in the AB.
I’ve heard the Twins will make him stop switch-hitting when spring training starts which may help him.
Lefthanded he’s as confident a hitter as I’ve seen, he can turn on anyone’s fastball and recognizes pitches well.
Defense has never been a question, he has a 70 arm at worst, and his speed, reads and routes are all plus.
His floor is Denard Span’s ceiling.
by Kelsdad on Jan 7, 2026 7:01 PM EST up reply actions
HIcks
Repeated Lo-A 2 straight years, never really mastered it, got promoted last year to Hi-A anyway, struggled again, and did even worse in the 2nd half. Defense is very good, but the Twins need offense and they already have Span and Revere in the OF anyway. Still young enough to figure it out, but I’ve lost a lot of faith in him; I can defer to the scouting reports only for so long. He most likely wont be in BA’s Top 100 this year.

Re "resiults driven"
Piliere’s claim to fame is that he’s a fprmer scout.
by siddfynch on Jan 7, 2026 10:38 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
don't think it's results driven at all
speaking from an AZ standpoint, if it were, Bauer and Skaggs would be a lot higher
at least, Bauer would be higher than Cole, and i’d think Skaggs would be in the top 15, and there’s no way Parker would be higher than those two
also, guys like Brad Peacock, Trevor May, and James Paxton would probably also be higher
i can’t say that i’m fond of this list though

Worst list
I have seen in quite some years, too many obvious to point out.

Outrageous.
Yet another list that doesn’t perfectly conform to my expectations - expectations I have only due to vaguely imagining a consensus based on reading other lists that didn’t perfectly match my expectations either.

exactly
there are some rankings i don’t “agree” with either. but he’s the former scout, i’m not…and just as importantly, it’s HIS opinion.
take the lists for what they are, and enjoy them for what they’re worth.
as for any errors/mistakes…blame his editor at scout.

To talk about this a little more
I think what it might be is that I’d have him higher than you did in the ’11 draft class, but I would have the overall draft class lower on the top prospects board than you would.

A few surprises here: Some I like, some I don't, but what do I know?
Like: Choice, Perez, Gose, Marisnick, Montgomery and Segura high, Bundy and Starling low
Don’t like: Lee, Hicks D’arnaud, Green, Bethancourt high,
D’Arnaud and Bauer Low

You like the Gose ranking?
I know that the guy is toolsy as hell but he is still a guy who hits in the .250’s, puts up an OPS below .750, and strikes out a ton. I’d say he’s talented enough to be a top-100 guy but 45th? I can’t imagine putting him ahead of Gary Brown or Starling Marte.
by KentuckyPirate on Jan 7, 2026 4:39 PM EST up reply actions
Gose's ranking is justifiable.
Strikes out a ton but… also walked 62 times (compared to Marte’s 22), stole 70 bases, plays an excellent CF and did it as a 20 yr old in the AA Eastern League; the same league as Marte who is almost 2 yrs older. Brown, who is even a bit older than Marte put up his numbers in the hitter friendly Hi A Cal league.

Pitchers Problem?
We don’t think some of the pitchers ranked this high works at all: Banuelos (9th best overall?), Turner (trade bait?) and Vizcaino (in the pen and injury risk?) all seems way too highly placed.
Also, we think the Grant Green and Aaron Hicks bus has left the station. Surprised to see both of them ranked higher than Marisnick.
Too many other questionable rankings to list.
by Hairylady on Jan 7, 2026 8:13 AM EST reply actions
Vizcaino
isn’t “in the pen”. he was last year, and perhaps this year, but his future is in the rotation.
by JoelGuzman'sScout on Jan 7, 2026 10:02 AM EST up reply actions
we'll see
If he starts the season in the Atlanta pen, odds are he’s staying there. I can see how the move could have been temporary to get help in a pennant race, but if he’s going to move to the rotation eventually, they’ll find a way to get him starts in AA and AAA first. The Braves are known to break guys into the majors in the pen and move them to the rotation later, but all of the ones who’ve made that move have been starters for most of their time in the upper minors.
by rlwhite on Jan 7, 2026 10:11 AM EST up reply actions
Vizcaino has always been a starter
The reason he moved to the bullpen late last season was to limit his innings (even with the move he surpassed his previous career high in innings by ~30). People heard Wren mention all the Braves possible rotation members for next year, leaving Vizcaino out, and they seem to have taken it as proof the Vizcaino was moving to the pen. Personally, I thought it was as simple as not considering him for the MLB rotation because the necessary inning jump would be far to large. Perhaps he does start the season in the bullpen, but I’m willing to bet he’s starting games in AA/AAA until later in the season, when he makes the move to the bullpen to once again limit his inning jump and help the big league club down the stretch.

yeah, there's that
but there’s THIS list that has Hak-Ju Lee rated 16 spots higher than Trevor Bauer and 36 spaces higher than Rendon and 29 spaces ahead of Marisnick. This is just silly.
by JoelGuzman'sScout on Jan 7, 2026 10:04 AM EST up reply actions
That isn't silly if you believe in Lee's bat and have a clue about how much a good defensive SS is worth,
by mr. maniac on Jan 7, 2026 10:43 AM EST up reply actions
i sorta like the Hak-Ju ranking
in terms of his overall placement (maybe i’d drop him another five or ten spots). i do think the community here is underrating how valuable a good defensive SS with some offense is
i’d probably have Bauer and Rendon higher though
by blue bulldog on Jan 7, 2026 12:02 PM EST up reply actions
Rendon
is clearly super talented. However, the fact that he dropped as far as he did in the draft suggests there might really be something to his shoulder injury. Until we actually see him play a game, I can easily see injury concerns keeping him from being a true top-tier prospect. A good season in 2012 could shoot him right back into the top-10 or maybe even top-5, though.
by KentuckyPirate on Jan 7, 2026 4:42 PM EST up reply actions
I highly respect
Piliere’s scouting reports - they are always thorough and well written, very informative. These rankings, however, I am having trouble following the thought process. Rankings don’t have to agree with mine for me to think they are good obviously, however, I would expect a little more consistency - he’s got very similar high upside guys ranked far apart and very similar high floor guys scattered about - for example, Banuelos at 9, Taijuan Walker at 77? Hak-Ju Lee at 20 and Alonso at 98? And also, Christian Bethancourt above Travis D’Arnaud at catcher? Not sure I follow the logic, maybe a write-up would be nice too see his justifications for some of the placements on here.

I do hate it when no write up is included.
by mr. maniac on Jan 7, 2026 10:44 AM EST up reply actions
I think the rankings are highly dependent on when he saw these prospects
Bethancourt wow’d people during the AFL, and that has to be contributing to his placement. On the other hand, he may not have gotten a chance to see Walker this year, leaving him with only his view of him as a prep arm.

My guess on Bethancourt over D'Arnaud
A lot of weight on OFP. Bethancourt has pretty insane tools for a C. I could see a case for future projections of an 80 arm, 70 defense, 55 run, 55 contact, 55 power. Not something you see too often at the C position, though obviously he has a far better chance of never contributing a bit of value at the MLB level.

Hardly.

Quick thoughts:
Too high: Banuelos (like seriously), Segura, Hicks, Betances
Too low: Skaggs, Bauer, Paxton, Walker, Schoop
There’s other rankings that i might personally disagree with, but those really jumped out to me as very odd. Bauer and Walker’s placement in particular seemed very odd. I’m not as high on Bauer as most, since I have some doubts about his ability to be an ace, but I still think he has the floor of a solid, innings-eating #3. 36 is way too low.
Walker’s ranking is even more perplexing, since he’s very similar in stuff, performance, and age to Carlos Martinez, but is taller and a better athlete. So why is Martinez #19 and Walker is #77?
So yeah, I’m not going to trust something that is this far off from the general consensus.

good points
I agree with your reasoning.
Walker is insanely low.

I thought Martinez was projected to have a plus to plus plus breaking ball and Walker was not

It's still developing but Walker flashes a tremendous curve ball
I definitely don’t think you can give Martinez’s the edge.
As for why the discrepancy: I’d bet that it’s because he saw Martinez in the future game, and probably hasn’t seen Walker since one of the showcases.

Totally a valid reason
With scouts one should expect to see input deeper than numbers but with more flaws like bias or when/how often they were seen.
