BA Astros Top Ten

Jonathan Singleton

Jarred Cosart

George Springer

Jonathan Villar

Paul Clemens

Domingo Santana

Brett Oberholtzer

Delino DeShields Jr

Mike Foltynewicz

Telvin Nash

Star-divide

I'm mildly surprised to see Nash listed over guys like Wates, Houser, and Ovando, other than that no surprises here.

Their 2015 projected lineup, while always a bit of rosterbation, is at least interesting:

Catcher Jason Castro
First Base Jonathan Singleton
Second Base Delino DeShields Jr.
Third Base Jimmy Paredes
Shortstop Jonathan Villar
Left Field J.D. Martinez
Center Field George Springer
Right Field Domingo Santana
No. 1 Starter Bud Norris
No. 2 Starter Jarred Cosart
No. 3 Starter Wandy Rodriguez
No. 4 Starter Jordan Lyles
No. 5 Starter Paul Clemens
Closer Mark Melancon

Need to add DH to roster projection

If they move to AL West like everyone expects, who would be the DH in 2015? Brett Wallace?

by TFelsmaier on Nov 17, 2025 11:30 AM EST reply actions

I tend to see J.D. Martinez moving to DH in a few years

Assuming he hits, which I think he will.

Lots of ways to shuffle around the outfield situation, and who knows how everything will work out by ’15. Maybe Ariel Ovando works out, or the first overall pick next year is an outfielder, or Schafer turns his career around and Springer ends up in an outfield corner… etc.

Those projected lineups

Mean almost nothing. They don’t take into account free agency or pretty much anything. They just fit the prospects into a lineup for fun.

Exactly

That’s why I said it’s just some interesting rosterbation

Seems like KG and BA

Are simply more optimistic about Nash than most of the people that follow the Astros minor leaguers. If that is the case, and they think Ovando, Houser, Armstrong, Wates are also in the same class of the guys on the top 10 list (B- types), then the fact that they prefer Nash doesn’t bother me. If they think Nash is the start of a third tier of C+ types, and think way less of the guys I mentioned above than the people that follow the Astros organization, then I think BA’s list is a little pessimistic. Either way, time will tell.

im a huge astros fan

I like altuve and of course root for him but I don’t see a hall of famer, a batting champ or even an all-star. I do see a guy that if he wasn’t call-up would be a big time prospect after the minor league season he had. At his age I’m not surprised he struggled late in the season. I do think he will be a good contributor in this league he just needs the experience.

I think Altuve can flirt with .300 consistently (.280-.315 range) and hit 10ish homers

I also think he can be above average defensively.

That’s as far as I’m willing to go and that’s as a BIG Altuve fan. His ceiling in my opinion is as a very good regular, whose only shot to be a HoFer would be if he shows exceptional longevity and uses his hit tool to snag 3,000.

That it!

That is essentially the kind of player I think he can be and, thats a hell of a player. I compared him to Howie Kendrick and that is what Howie does most seasons.

Like Howie was, all I ever wanted to say was that he was one of the top 2-3 players and prospects in the Cal League this season and will be a very good regular. I think he could win a batting title one day and consistently hit .300 in the big leagues.
