Community Projection: Austin Jackson

More photos » Eric Gay - AP

3 months ago: Detroit Tigers' Austin Jackson runs bases during spring training baseball practice, Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, in Lakeland, Fla. (AP Photo/Eric Gay)

Austin Jackson is a controversial rookie: some people (including me) really like him, while others (particularly many sabermetric-oriented analysts) really don't. As such he's a great topic for a Community Projection.

Project the following numbers, in order:

Games
At-Bats
Runs
Hits
Doubles
Triples
Homers
Walks
Strikeouts
Steals
Caught Stealing
Batting Average (make sure math is right)

I will calculate OBP and SLG for you.

Games: 102
At-Bats: 316
Runs: 46
Hits: 81
Doubles: 14

Walks: 21
Strikeouts: 97
Steals: 18
Caught Stealing: 4
Batting Average (make sure math is right): .256

Makes for a .256/.312/.351 slash line. I think he gets demoted midseason for a couple weeks (hence the low game total). Not a fan, clearly.

Here, here:

Games: 67
At-Bats: 245
Runs: 32
Hits: 54
Doubles: 12
Triples: 3
Homers: 2
Walks: 12
Strikeouts: 85
Steals: 10
Caught Stealing: 4
Batting Average (make sure math is right): 220

.220/.257/.310

OPS of .567, so I’m taking the under on a .600 OPS.

That’s a higher average and slugging than Jordan Schafer last year, FWIW.

Brett Anderson is the Truth. Brett Anderson is divine presence. Brett Anderson is eternal life. Brett Anderson is within you. Brett Anderson is here. Brett Anderson is Now.

K/BB ratio of .14?

That’s WELL below half of his career ratio.

but

Schafer missed 3/4 of the year with a broken wrist (and it obviously impeded his last month of at-bats), FWIW.

Perhaps, I’m too caught up in his spring K/BB improvement, but I think he excels this season.

Ironically, I see him as a younger Curtis Granderson.

Dont know if there is much irony there I think thats why the Tigers demanded him…..cheaper and younger version of “ageing” “expensive” star
