there’s nothing to go on.

That could be your writeup (hey, think of the decreased printing costs!)

Michael Ynoa, C: There’s nothing to go on.

I do think he’s in the top 38 guys, or even the top 35. Many of these guys are not even at the C level (see below).

No Bobby Cramer love?

His intangibles are through the roof!

He's probably at least as good as Clay Mortensen

ok

Will drop Shane Peterson who is disappointing at this point.

by John Sickels on Dec 28, 2025 4:59 PM EST up reply actions

Fautino de los Santos?

He’s about to turn 25, but those K rates post-TJS are still really, really beastly.

And, the 6 ERA in AA last year had a LOT to do with a .439 BABIP and a 48.3% LOB, both of which are really, really unsustainable and flukey—-his FIP was around 2.

Saw FDLS a couple of times last year, would like to hear what John’s thinking about him.

by mrkupe on Dec 28, 2025 6:06 PM EST up reply actions

FDLS, please. With H-Rod gone, he’s, at the very least, got the most exciting fastball in the system!

by oakballnack on Dec 28, 2025 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

less value obviously as a reliever, but his stuff merits mention. still has closer upside IMO. i’d rather see that in the list than some C/C+ guy that ceilings as a 4th OF type

by octopusink on Dec 28, 2025 11:38 PM EST up reply actions

Yep

Best relief prospect in the system, and it’s not particularly close.

Jonathan Joseph

Nice year, hits 94+ with FB. What gives?

by MaineChief on Dec 28, 2025 5:44 PM EST reply actions

joseph

yeah he is interesting. but who do I cut? How about A.J. Kirby Jones?

by John Sickels on Dec 28, 2025 7:34 PM EST up reply actions

Power is precious...

How about A.J. Griffin? At least you’re sacrificing a relief arm for a possible DH.

The monster at the end of this blog.

by grover on Dec 28, 2025 7:44 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed

Would cut Griffin over Kirby Jones. Also would consider Capra - I liked him some coming into last year but he disappointed in AA, is a soft tosser, and will be 24 in April.

by MaineChief on Dec 28, 2025 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

He did pass through Rule 5

It’s hardly a mark of certain failure, but it does mean that no team is willing to risk a roster spot on a gamble at getting him for free.

Matthew Thomson

Seems to have found a few more MPH’s in Pro-Ball

Matt Thomson

definitely deserves to be on this list. Since the draft, his fastball went from upper 80’s to 92-93, and he showed excellent results in low a and went 5 innings with 10 k’s in a spot start at high a. He has a decent combination of safety and ceiling, which is more then most of the pitchers in this system have going for them.

As far as who I would drop, I don’t think either of Straily or Ortiz (rhp) have the same level of ceiling and safety, and neither has shown a high level of success at any level

"It takes no talent to give great effort." - Chris Petersen

agreed

Thompson’s K rates are hard to ignore.

by oakballnack on Dec 28, 2025 9:42 PM EST up reply actions

Straily?

… he was like third in the organization in strikeouts last season. Maybe second. I don’t remember. Very high, anyway.

Ortiz is intriguing and I want to hear about him. Supposedly he has decent stuff and his K rate is insane, even if it is the low minors.

See below for my proposed cuts. Thomson very much needs to be on this list but these are not the guys to drop.

"We don't want our people to be preoccupied with seminude, crazy men jumping up and down who are chasing an inflated object," said Sheik Mohamed Osman Arus, head of operations for the Hizbul Islam insurgent group.

I'll echo C-Fan and pfeifer... Thomson needs a look.

A 71/10 K/BB in 51 IP deserves some attention. Sacrifice Petey Paramore if space constraints are an issue.

Please and thank you.

thomson

I already added thomson at the expense of Tommy thompson, who didnt’ do much in the northwest league. I will put FDLS in instead of paramore

Sounds good.

by grover on Dec 28, 2025 7:44 PM EST up reply actions

Paramore's walk ability is great, but not much else there

The one time I saw him (so take that for what it’s worth), he looked like the slowest runner I’ve ever seen. I mean, slow even for a catcher. Molina slow. It was awe-inspiring to see someone move as slowly as he was moving while trying really hard to get around the bases.

by thejd44 on Dec 28, 2025 10:32 PM EST up reply actions

IIRC he's gotten high marks for his defense behind the dish though

As for speed: when I saw him play, he was playing with a hamstring injury. So imagine a Molina with a hamstring injury. That’s slow.

I’d have no problem dropping him as it seems like he tops out as a Henry Blanco type backup.

Cut AJ Griffin

Place Dusty Coleman

I called it - Joe Mauer's first career Home-Run at Target Field !!!

Why Oh Why did the D'Backs select A.J. Pollock over Mike Trout?

I hate Hunter Wendelstedt, you hate Hunter Wendelstedt we all hate hunter w

by SteveHoffmanSlowey on Dec 28, 2025 9:56 PM EST reply actions

Depending on who is left

I would cut in this order, from least deserving of a spot to most (that is to say, cut from top down):
Thompson
Peterson
Ladendorf
Barfield
Nunez
Paramore
Capra
Kirby-Jones
Griffin
Magnuson
Shipman

I’d add, in order from best to worst:
Thomson (who I think should not merely be ON the list, but a B- prospect)
F. De los Santos
Lewis
Cramer
Ynoa
Hornbeck

That gives you up to five spots to cut the list down if need be.

"We don't want our people to be preoccupied with seminude, crazy men jumping up and down who are chasing an inflated object," said Sheik Mohamed Osman Arus, head of operations for the Hizbul Islam insurgent group.

Good list

Does ‘prospect status’ stop at 26, or can Bobby Cramer, aged 31 still be on there ?

by OPS2000 on Dec 29, 2025 3:35 AM EST up reply actions

Prospect status is all about service time

Which is why John has included Japanese imports in the past. Cramer is eligible, he just might not be interesting enough.

I agree that it's an aggressive grade

I’m betting that the velocity-jump reports and improved command are for real.
