Los Angeles Dodgers Organization Discussion

I am now working on the Oakland Athletics. The next team on the list is the Los Angeles Dodgers, to be followed by the Los Angeles Angels, Philadelphia Phillies, and Pittsburgh Pirates.  Use this thread to discuss the Dodgers system, focusing on sleepers you think might get overlooked.

Here and there

I know he was WAY too old for the MWL and the Dodgers’ decision to keep him there all year was odd, but I really think Brian Cavazos-Galvez has the mix of skills and tools to wind up starting in a major league outfield for a little while and maybe throw up one or two 120 RC+ seasons. He really needs to open 2011 in Chatanooga, because Rancho isn’t going to tell them anything about the guy they don’t already know.
Also a big fan of Trayvon Robinson. After being a “can you imagine if he ever figures out how to use those tools” guy for through 2008, this year really showed that 2009 wasn’t just a Cal League mirage, and that while he still swings and misses at too many pitches, he can draw walks and hits the ball with authority. I think he’s jumped from the C+ you gave him at the start of the year to a solid B, and wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him in the Dodgers’ outfield by August (which says at least as much about the Gibbons/Gwynn/Hoffmann slop that will be 1/3 of their outfield this year as it does about him…)

I’m higher on Webster than you. Robinson is one of my favorite guys, too. It seems to be a consensus top 7 for the Dodgers in varying orders (Robinson, Gordon, Lee, De La Rosa, Sands, Webster and Jansen).

It’s nice some of the lesser-known prospects stepped up after higher-profile prospects faltered (Lindblom, Withrow, Martin).

Blake Smith

I am really interested in seeing what people say about Blake Smith. This time last year people were saying he was a gigantic overdraft, and others even said he should go back to pitching. In 2010 he put up a pretty solid year. Still strikes out a lot, but the power and other aspects seem to have many positives for him

His power in intriguing and he’s definitely a good athlete. He’ll have to make consistent contact in the upper levels of the minors. I like him. He’s a top 20 guy on my list.

LOL Fodgers

Agent Ned is just waiting for some of the Giants minor leaguers to become minor league FA’s so he can sign them. #1 prospect next year will be Edgar Renteria after Ned gives him $20 mil over 3 years.

You sound like a real expert in the Dodger farm system :-/

which goes pretty deep this year, compared to previous years. And yeah, hopefully NedCo won’t be trading them all away for some magic beans or middle relief.

There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
