Jose Reyes for Dice K?

Uh oh. I sense a lot of anger from both NY and BOS entering this link. Well tell me why. This is pure curiosity on my end (as far as I know I have never heard this trade discussed, only Beltran for Dice K). Here are their contracts.

Reyes: 2010 $11 mil

Matsuzaka: 2010 $10 mil 2011 10 mil

Who wins? Who loses? How do fans from each time react? Please state your fanhood as well.

Star-divide

Bonus question: How will this affect the Yu Darvish sweepstakes of next year for both teams if this was to happen?

However, as a Sox fan...

if the Mets would be stupid enough to even consider it, then it would be an absolute ripoff.

The former Mets GM might have done this

no chance with the new Mets GM.

tough to say

as much as Dice-K drives you nuts he has been a solid pitcher that would benefit fro m a move to the NL and to a pitchers haven. And the Mets wouldn’t have to honour the unwritten agreement to not offer arbitration and the Mets could have control of him for another year or two.

On the other hand Reyes seems the superior talent. I’m just not sure what Boston would do for a 5th starter in this market. They already improved their offense enough to not need to do this deal. Still, if I’m the Red Sox I do it and try to extend Reyes.

Possible joke...

Dice k’s value is terrible right now, and while Reyes’ stock is down, he is still one of the handful of best SS in the game.

maybe if...

the red sox eat half of dice ks contract and throw in a prospect or 2

Reyes is a 27 year old who whenever he has been healthy, has been a superstar

Dice-K is a good pitcher who also has injury issue. At their best, Reyes is a top 15 player in baseball and top 3 shortstop, Dice-K is maybe around a top 30 or 40 pitcher.

Reyes

the Mets would want alot more than Dice K for Reyes….and I don’t see Dice K as top 30-40 SPs in baseball….lower for sure

Dice-K is under contract for 2012 as well

and I think would be under team contract for 2013

by pedrophile on Dec 16, 2025 12:10 AM EST up reply actions

No

Prior to the Crawford signing, a Beltran for Dice-K trade might have been realistic.
Keep in mind that Dice-K is under contract for 2012 as well (I believe between 10-12 mio $ based on his 2011 performance).

Of course, the Mets off-season theme has been avoiding any commitments for 2011.
And besides Reyes being worth more than Dice-K on an isolated note, pretty sure the Mets rather keep the 27-year-old sparkplug SS who´ll either be re-signed after 2011 or net a big haul in a July trade or 2 draft picks in June 2012 at worst.

Of course, a Dice-K, Jed Lowrie and Jacoby Ellsbury for Reyes trade could be tempting.

Beltran for Dice-K makes more sense from a "value" standpoint

Though I agree that the Red Sox already have too crowded of an OF.

Reyes for Dice-K, Kalish and a lower level prospect might make more sense.

How about Reyes for Pujols?

If we’re going to be totally unreasonable, why not go in the other direction.
