Post any trade or free agent signing rumours you read here.  If possible post a link or quote a source directly.

Some recent rumours from MLB trade rumors:

1.  Some no-name pitcher signed with the Phillies

2.  The Yankees showed everyone that they don't need Cliff Lee by signing Russell Martin to a contract

3. The A's signed Matsui to a 1 year/$4.25 million contract.  No word yet on whether he will bring his porn collection to Oakland

What are some other rumours that you have found interesting?

Matsui an upgrade over Cust at DH?

"Carter's 25-game hitting streak isn't any normal streak. He's 46 for 97 (.474 average) during the run, adding 16 walks and compiling 81 total bases in the process. I'm out of superlatives for what he's doing." - Kevin Goldstein

Debatable

Cust put up great power numbers in an extremely pitcher friendly park. I think Matsui could have a good year but am not sure if he will outproduce Cust. Can an A’s fan give more insight into why the A’s always seemed to be down on Cust?

by King Billy Royal on Dec 14, 2025 5:22 PM EST up reply actions

Personally I liked Cust.

But most fans were down on his for the Ks and terrible defense.Id rather have Cust.

So when do the Pitcher-to-the-Yankees trade rumors start heating up?

Might be fun to speculate about some guys to the Yankees, like Chris Carpenter or Josh Johnson or something.

Downs doesn't like to close

It was common knowledge in Toronto that Downs didn’t want to close. He prefers the setup man role.

by King Billy Royal on Dec 14, 2025 11:09 PM EST up reply actions

If Manny goes to the Jays

The Jays will have a pretty crowded group of OF/DH types with Lind and Snider already there. Granted, Lind is rumored to be moving to 1B full-time.

by jaroche6 on Dec 14, 2025 10:14 PM EST up reply actions

i think you answered your own question there. : )

Snider is an outfielder; Lind is not. Right now they have Lind to handle 1B and DH.

yes

The secondary stuff was inconsistent, but I watched a couple games where he was 95-96 in the 5th inning. Kind of an awkward delivery too—iirc.

I suppose it is always possible he could come back a little stronger too.

while still posting 9.9 rWAR during that span

despite a broken hand. That’s tough. You might want more out of 1Bman. And Pittsburg might have no business spending $5m on a vet in the position. But he’ll earn his $5m.

Garza

So I completely missed this, but it might’ve been discussed. Anyhow, Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago specifically notes, in his blog about Zambrano, that, for Garza, the Rays want pitchers, but also a shortstop of the future.

Levine and others (Bruce Miles as well) have indicated that the Cubs are still pursuing Garza, and there’s some indications that the Cubs have an offer out. My guess is that it’s something like McNutt/Jay Jackson or Chris Carpenter/Hak-ju Lee, but that’s just a guess on my part.

Willingham

going to OAK for two prospects [one with major league exp.]

they haven’t said who, but is it remotely possible they would give up CVC here? I don’t think so, but who knows…

I bet it’s Tyson Ross, A’s mgmt doesn’t seem to know what to do with him.

by PrincetonCubs on Dec 16, 2025 2:19 PM EST up reply actions

hmm

Ross or Henry Rodriguez seem like the most likely players for the prospect with ML experience. The other player . . .maybe Corey Brown, knowing Washington’s penchant for toolsy players?

Im guessing

Cardenas and H-Rod.

No super awesome moves by Beane this year but 3-4 good ones. Matsui/WIllingham/DeJesus is a good upgrade over what we were running out there last year.

by mrkupe on Dec 16, 2025 3:37 PM EST up reply actions

Nice call kupe

Seems like a decent deal for both sides. A’s move bullpen depth and an intriguing yet frustrating prospect in Brown. The Nats add a potentially electric arm to their pen and a good gamble in Brown for a player that walks after this year.

Yeah, good deal for both sides. It appears that BB is not counting on CVC, for the first couple months- anyway.

by St.Steve on Dec 16, 2025 4:21 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not crazy about it from the Nats side

I think if you’re looking at it from a prospect value it makes sense. B- and a C+ guy for a one year rental. On the other hand, the Nats don’t really need bullpen help and showed a reluctance to give Justin Maxwell, who seems to bring a similar resume as Corey Brown, a trial of substance last year as a platoon guy with Nyjer Morgan. Likewise, the Nats seem to be overloading on bullpen guys. Storen, Burnett, Clippard, Balester, Slaten, Stammen, Cole Kimball, Adam Carr, their Rule 5 pick, AJ Morris seem like a heap of guys who could be decent in the bullpen, not too mention they could sign a reliever to protect the younger guys from closer duties and try to flip him a la Matt Capps.

I get it from a scouting/prospect perspective. I don’t get it from a “I’m a GM that’s put my reputation on Jayson Werth and need to get this team to .500+ pretty darn quick!” perspective.

Remember that Willingham is a possible Type A candidate as well.

As an A's fan

I would say the return for Willingham is less valuable then the return for Dejesus. Mazzaro was the best player of the 4 total that were dealt, and I have been pretty high on Marks since he was drafted. Henry Rodriguez has closer stuff, without closer control. Toward the end of last year he was throwing 95-97 MPH instead of 98-101 and it helped his control some, but he’s got some work to do to become a big league setup man or closer. I have been waiting for Corey Brown to stay healthy for years, and for years I have been disappointed. He has the tools to become an above average OF’r, but at this point in his career he lacks the plate discipline or health.

I guess for me it comes down to what Mazzaro and Rodriguez become. I think Mazzaro has a better chance of becoming a solid #3-4 big league pitcher then Rodriguez does of becoming a solid big league closer.

It will be the Jays

because Anthopoulos will not offer more than he basically got for Halladay and no one can match that at this point IMO. KC threw Drabek and Snider out there for other teams but nobody except maybe Texas was ever gonna go that high or even has the right pieces.
Conan did offer a different possibility last night though…….maybe the Yankees have no choice but to buy the Royals lol
