Trade Advice
Small amount of background first. Context is a strat league with 35 man MLB rosters and 30 man minor league rosters. I've been offered Aaron Hicks for Aroldis Chapman. I already own Stephen Strasburg, and a pretty deep MLB staff, and 1 or 2 other premium pitching prospects (B-level and above). I have Maybin and Stubbs on my MLB roster in CF, and guys like Reddick, Borbon, Westmoreland in my minors. I'm a big time Twins fan, and want to pull the trigger on this, but Hicks is a ways away, and after Strasburg graduates, Chapman could be the top minor league pitcher with a good showing this year. He's probably pull in more than Hicks at that point. Should I gamble and hold Chapman, or take whats on the table now?

Hold on to him
and trade him later in the year… Some one will bite on his velocity at some point when he is overpowering kids in Low A ans you should be able to get more than just a Hicks type player in a position you might have a need in

Who else is in your OF?
I’d keep Hicks, your OF sounds pretty weak in general. Chapman can be a stud, or a bust, who knows? you already have the American version in that (Strasburg).

Uh, he has Chapman....
Personally I would hold onto Chapman, though it is close. See if you can get the guy to throw in a draft pick or something to even the deal out. I have Chapman about 5 spots ahead of Hicks on my personal top 100, if that gives you any idea on how close those two actually are.

Hold on to him
I don’t like Chapman, but I don’t like Hicks. Chapman has the better chance of reaching the majors, the problem is he may stick in the bullpen, but its close. I could see it either way. If you could get another lower level prospect with it I would do it.

take hicks
Hicks is still a top 20 Offensive player with amazing upside… Chapman is well randy johnson or a Left RP.
Chapaman will struggle and his value will drop.

Agreed
Hicks. You already have a stud SP, nothing wrong with having two, but Chapman carries a lot of risk. Hick carries risk but less. Yes, Chapman carries more potential.

Hicks has one of the highest ceilings in the minors. Scouts love him. Equal risk for both not reaching ceilings, but give me the hitter.

In fantasy, I always lean toward the hitter
And in this case, I’d say both prospects are around the same ranking either way, and each have tremendous upside and potential. I’d go with Hicks, but you could wait out and try to up his value
You’re name has 2k9 in it — what are you some 8 year-old who makes Pillsbury Doughboy cookies and jerks off to that bullshit video game with Tim Lincecum on the cover--

keep Aroldis
Ok, you know you’re a Twins fan and you want to be talked out of doing this deal. So here goes: Chapman’s value exceeds Hicks’, and you’ll get more for him in trade elsewhere. DON’T DO IT.

If you really want Hicks you should probably just do this
Though you should try (and be able) to get more out of this. Ask him for more.
If you do make the trade, you are losing value wise, but its not a killer, lopsided trade.
Really, though, go back and say you need more to do it. He probably wants Chapman at least as much as you want Hicks.

Chapman may well turn out to be worth far less than Hicks if he doesn’t pan out… but at this point, Hicks hasn’t shown any sort of life in full season ball, and his perceived value is certainly lower than chapman’s at this point
if i were you i’d fish around a little see what else you can get as an offer… atleast make the guy with hicks sweat it a little see if he ups his ante…
