Joe Mauer signs

Well Yankee fans, looks like your not going to get your man after all. Well there is a first time for everything. My question to everyone. Of all the contracts of $150million plus, which one do you believe offers the most bang for the buck.

Alex Rodriguez, NYY 2008-17 $275 million

Derek Jeter, NYY 2001-10 $189 million

Joe Mauer, Min 2011-18 $184 million

Mark Teixeira, NYY 2009-16 $180 million

CC Sabathia, NYY 2009-15 $161 million

Miguel Cabrera, Det 2008-15 $152.3 million

Mauer or Sabathia.

Tex.

Mainly because I think he is the most likely to maintain performance at the level of his signing, but also because he and Sabathia were both free agent signings, meaning they were net adds to their teams, while the players who resigned only maintained the sq.

Im sure that makes no sense, but eh…

While it makes sense, that's not really what the question asked

Most bang for the buck simply says “who will perform the best compared to the money they’re making.” It doesn’t really have anything to do with the team “adding” anything.

Boy ohh boy

my prediction was a little off
I predicted 7 years at 140 M (or so)
with an option for an 8th year to earn him about 158 M Anything over 180M is too much thats for sure

But its not that he doesn’t deserve it.

Wow Blackburn makes nearly identical money as Baker does now....

Glad to see that

First I heard of the deal was this post so I hope it’s true. As a baseball fan I’m glad that the local kid is staying there. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted a player to stay with a team I like this little so much.

Jeter

Obviosly since he already DELIVERED 9 good seasons out of a 10-year contract.

+1

Of the ones listed. My comment below follows the same idea.

How about A-Rod's LAST contract?

Did you only mean current? He collected over $150 million, and none of these guys will touch his value, most likely.

Also, am I crazy for not thinking the Yankees were the most likely destination should he have left?

Agreed

New York has Jesus Montero near-ready, and even if it turns out he’s not an everyday catcher (or even an anyday catcher) they have Austin Romine, J.R. Murphy, and Gary Sanchez in their system so catcher’s not a huge long-term need.

They’ll need the money for Crawford anyways…despite what people think, the Yankees aren’t made of cash.

Murphy and Sanchez are far from certain to stick at catcher themselves.

In fact, it seems pretty unlikely Sanchez stays there long term.

Romine… not really an impact guy for me, but either way you don’t not sign Mauer b/c of Austin Romine.

Agreed

That’s not what I was talking about. Sanchez was born in what, 1993?

I just meant I didn’t see the Yankees adding another nine-figure contract. I figured the Red Sox were much likelier.

Great article on this

over at BP. I take a look at this deal and the Blackburn and Span signings at Bullpen Banter as well.
