Should be interesting to see how he responds to the meltdown last start. I’m really hoping he is fired up and throws a gem.

I'm curious to hear about what his velocity is like tonight
Now raise your goblet of rock. It's a toast to those who rock!

velocity
I hope those reports weren’t true about it dipping to high 80’s. If I’m not mistaken isn’t he usually working 92-93 range?
by ChalupaCabrera on Aug 1, 2025 5:24 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No they were true
Goldstein and others confirmed.

I'm really hoping he's throwing 87 and gets rocked

Interesting to see if Matusz makes that start in Bowie
This O’s fan hopes he does. Part of me hopes he doesn’t, but that side of me doesn’t always think logically.

Per MASN.com
Brian Matusz is starting Game 1 of today’s doubleheader at New Britain. He hasn’t been scratched.
The game has moved to the bottom of the first inning.

He can still be pulled early of course…

Desmond Jennings makes his AAA debut
Probably. Assuming he’s in Durham by now.

the rise of chris carter
he had his skeptics going into the season, probably still does but he’s on fire right now. his K rate is no better or worse than lars anderson currently is. carter has 100 in 405 ab’s, anderson has 96 k’s in 356 ab’s. I remember a BP quote from a scout saying carter can hit breaking pitches. So either he’s the greatest mistake hitter ever or they are throwing him a ton of fastballs right now. Maybe he struggles in AAA, but he should get promoted within a month or so.

I wouldn't be comparing CC to Bartender Lars in any way, shape, or form...
Lars has been horrific this year.

I think the main thing to be happy about is that Carter is hitting .319
And on top of having 17 HR, has 32 doubles.
Wish I could get this to work for individual teams; it’ll only let me do translated stats for neutral teams.

i think that's a problem specific to midland
i don’t know what the deal is, but midland is one of maybe, 5, parks on the MLE calculator that doesn’t have settings.
human beings, who are almost unique in their ability to learn from the experiences of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Zach Britton is on the bump as well tonight....
His line thus far: 3 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 SO, 0 BB

Finished the game with the loss....
5 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 SO, 2 BB
Fairly pedestrian outing, but still a quality start. Errors riddled this particular game, as he allowed 5 runs, only one of which was earned. Another good GB/AO performance as well posting an 11/2 ratio.

Starting to think this has less to do with Alvarez on this particular night. haha

2-3….2 RBI

2B
BB
He has absolutely been crushing the ball since coming back…he’s almost up to a 1.000 OPS (somewhere in the .980’s now) and he now has 5 doubles and a HR in his last 2 games.

I love Erbe
Most guys do not like his mechanics, but I like an aggressive max effort full body delivery. I hope he’ll get a chance to start in the majors, though. That Orioles rotation is going to be really backed up with talent.

The AL East is going to be a scary, scary place for quite some time. I’m a big fan of how the O’s have committed to some of their less-heralded guys this year on the pitching staff (Berken, Hernandez, Bergensen, et all). They’ve gotten some pleasant surprises, and it’s a lot easier to break rookies in in waves. Additionally, those guys all have had question marks that still aren’t fully answered, but now they have a much better idea of which guys are going to be key cogs in lesser roles around the big arms in the future. Trial by fire - I love it.

I really see Erbe as the third best arm there
a good bit behind Tillman and Matusz, but right with Hobgood and Arrieta.

arm or pitcher?
A lot of people would say Arrieta has the best arm of the O’s big 3….

Jesus Montero injured
The severity is unknown, but he suffered a hand injury while receiving a pitch. The Yankees have already demoted another catcher from Scranton to Trenton, so it seems that Montero is likely to miss some time.

Interesting
He gets injured while playing the position that he has no shot at playing in the majors.
by jar75 on Aug 2, 2025 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
This
is why you move guys off catcher sooner rather than later. See Conger, Hank. The big risk is that they lose development time with the bat. Not… so… much a concern with the super young and super advanced Montero, but it sure aint a good thing.
by alskor on Aug 2, 2025 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
?
Conger hasn’t been moved off catcher, and I don’t think that’s a foregone conclusion like with Montero.
by aCone419 on Aug 2, 2025 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah
If anything I’d say for right now, Conger is evidence that you shouldn’t move a guy off of the position unless it’s absolutely necessary. Granted we may have hit that point with Montero breaking his hand, but Conger’s far more valuable as a 21 year old catcher in AA than a 21 year old DH in AAA or the majors.
by jibs on Aug 2, 2025 3:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, Conger isn't a good example at all
I’ve never heard of him moving off catcher, especially when compared to the way everyone believes Montero has to move…
by cowboy4eva on Aug 2, 2025 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Its very much been discussed
and there is no guarantee Conger stays at catcher still.

Almost went 3-4,
but Aubrey Huff made a sexxxy diving catch. I have a huge mancrush on Josh Reddick right-about-now. It was sad to see him shave his mohawk and pornstache, though. The BIFOCALS always win.

His plate coverage is incredible. He gets the fat of the bat on the ball every time. He’s like a normal sized Pedroia.

Trevor May
7 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 9 K
Since joining the Lakewood rotation in the middle of June, he’s been wildly effective. 6’4" 19 year old with a low-to-mid 90s fastball and a good curveball and usable changeup coming out of high school. He was the “helium watch” guy on this week’s BA Hot Sheet. Definitely a guy to track.

randall delgado has had 3 very nice starts in a row. last night 6 ips, 2 runs, 7 Ks and 2 BBs. last 3 starts combined 19 innings, 4 runs, and a sweet 22/2 K/BB ratio.

I was going to mention something along these lines. At this pace, should be considered for some top 100 lists at the end of the year. His Ks have been there all season, but the development in his control is getting exciting. A couple more of these, and I think the hype machine kicks in. Buy now!
