What About Joba?
What do you think the Yankees will do with Joba Chamberlain for the remainder of the season?
2008: 101 IP
2009: 110.1 IP
2009 Projected Pace: 173 IP (not including the playoffs)
Heading into the season, there was an understanding among Yankee management that they were gonna do their best to protect Joba's arm. I've read rumors that there is an innings cap for Joba at around 150-160 IP. At the current projected pace, Joba will finish the season at 173+ IP, not including the playoffs which the Yankees will likely make.
So the question is, if there is an innings cap on Joba, how do they ensure that he continues to pitch into the playoffs without blowing past the 150-160 IP target? Do they shut him down? Does Joba go back to the bullpen in September? Swap Joba's and Hughes' roles? The Yankees have a tough decision to make. Especially since Joba is on a real roll right now with 3 consecutive excellent starts. What would you do if you were the Yankees?

They have said there is an innings cap
Ideally, they would just skip him a few times… but Aceves is now hurting and the starters arent deep.
They really backed themselves into a corner and should have had a better plan in place, IMHO. I think they probably give Igawa et al some starts. Prepare to hear lots of complaining.

Good question
I was wondering the same thing. He’s looked really good lately, especially this last start against the Rays. I’d think with that slim lead in the East they’d almost have to let him keep pitching but we’ll see. Seems like they are determined to keep Hughes in the bullpen though.

its gonna be very tricky
Wang is out for the year, Mitre has been crap, and Joba’s innings are adding up. I’m not sure who they have in the minors that can step into the rotation if Joba’s skipped or pen’d. Kei Igawa was mentioned, anyone else?
I’m a lil surprised the Yankees didn’t add an arm before the deadline. Coulda woulda shoulda I guess.
Now raise your goblet of rock. It's a toast to those who rock!

They're going to start sliding him back in the rotation
This week Joba is going to get 3 extra days of rest before his next start.
I expect the Yanks to put in some waiver claims on expensive innings eater types this month. They surely can’t be comfortable with Mitre/Igawa. Too bad for Ian Kennedy, this could’ve been an opportunity for him to get some starts.

Yeah I expect
them to be super aggressive in waiver claims and trades. They can take a lot of risks others cant.
I think theyve been focusing on this period all along.
