Edgar Osuna
7 IP, 1 R…
He’s only given up one run now in his first 14 IP at AA… He’s one of several guys the Braves have who are getting new opportunities thanks to the McLouth deal, and he’s taking advantage.
He’s down to a 2.70 ERA, and a 1.10 WHIP for the year.
His Ks are down but he’s just getting the job done right now. He probably profiles more as lefty out of the pen down the road, but he’s a guy to keep an eye on, and he’s probably the guy (not named Medlen) in the Braves’ system whose stock has risen the most this year.
Q: If on-base pct is so important then why don't they put it on the scoreboard? -Failcoeur
A: Because the Braves don't want to show their fans how bad you suck.

Samardzija and I-Cubs
Win 5-3.
Shark - 6 ip, 5 h, 2 r (1 earned), 3 K’s, 1 HBP. 1/1, 3B, RBI, BB. Looks like a solid outing. He’s sorta been in neutral (in terms of career progression) as he works on his offspeed stuff.
Jeff Stevens - 2 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 4 K’s, WP, E.
Blake Parker - 1 ip, 2 K’s.
Both guys have had solid years, although in an interview on TCR a few weeks back, the I-Cubs pitching coach suggested that Stevens was getting by on his fastball. With the Cubs inconsistent pen, both are worth watching to see if they are called up.
Steve Clevenger - 0/2, R, BB, PB, HBP.
Nate Spears - 2/3, R, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K, E, SB. Been struggling with the bat all year.

Went to High School with Blake
And I still see him every now and then.
I’m psyched to see him doing well out of the pen after the failed stint as a C. I hope he gets his shot in the bigs.

I really really like him
I mean, the Cubs have a lot of pen arms, but I like the fact that he has a good 2 pitch arsenal and seems to be willing to attack hitters. Still some things to iron out, but he’s really made a name for himself the last year and change.

Yankees Tonight
Notes: Alan Horne is back on the DL. Jesus Montero might be back in the lineup after his day-to-day injury.
At Triple-A, they have Sergio Mitre making his AAA debut for the season. He was with Tampa (A+) for a little, returning from his injury and suspension.
Wilkins de la Rosa will be going to Trenton.
Ryan Zink will be going for Tampa.
Hector Noesi for Charleston.

because he was demoted...
he’s finding out it’s a lot easier in A+ than AA.

Drabek
5.0 inn, 7 hits, 5 BB, 3 K, 2 ER
I’m impressed he only gave up two runs with that line, which I suppose could be read as a good sign for his pitchability. But 8 walks in 12 AA innings is troublesome, but not entirely uncommon. He’s also yet to allow a hit to a right-handed batter in two starts, so that’s a plus.

Beavan
8 inn, 4 hits, 2 BB, 6 K, 3 ER
Does it matter to anyone that he’s thrown 7 straight quality starts now?

he doesn't strike anybody out
so nobody cares, but what if he throws 220-240 innings per year (under Nolan’s new promise of old school durability) in the show?

That's pretty much what I was thinking
For only being in High-A ball, the kid is an absolute workhorse. None of his components are all that impressive, but the amount of innings he’s throwing has to account for something.

It counts for something
durability is a huge question mark for every young pitcher.
BUT… the poor components don’t portend well for success at higher levels. Which is way more important than the ability to stay healthy. Guys arent all that valuable even if they can pitch 200+ innings if they pitch those innings like Horacio Ramirez.
Not saying Beavan is like that… just saying in general.

55% GB, 5% BB are pretty nice
his K% is 20+ for 2 out of the 3 months.
He’s getting his velocity back, now working 91-93, instead of the high 80s.
