Friday Afternoon Aviation

Forgotten Aircraft - The Douglas XB-19 (via Bomberguy)
A little off-topic aviation history for Friday afternoon.
Two of the coolest aircraft built in the 1930s were the Boeing XB-15 and Douglas XB-19 bombers, two huge monsters which were the spiritual predecessors of the B-29 and B-36. Poking around Youtube, I found a couple of nice videos regarding these two aircraft. The one about the XB-19 is particularly interesting and incorporates some newsreel footage.

We need more of these...
As a fellow aviation history enthusiast…
How we got from these to an F-22 in a little over 60 years is quite amazing…

What I find even more amazing
is how the industry went from the Wright brothers to planes such as the XB-19 in ~30 years without computers.

True...
Wars and threats of wars tend to do that.
