Haha...

I just made a post on Valencia….He doesn’t seem to get much love….why?

I like em

I wonder if he has the power for the corner.

Where will Chris Carter rank on top 100 lists this year?

Im thinking really, really high. I imagine people being surprised by this, too.

His line is now:.296/.404/.511 w/ 8 HR & 22 doubles, 37 BB/55 K, 7 SB/1 CS

This is following a Cal league campaign where he hit 39 HRs, and that following 25 HRs in the Sally league. He has 80 raw power to all fields. Kid looks awesome.

BP had him 48th in 2009, BA at 76th. I suspect if we made a list, people here would have guys like Morrison, Villalona and Freeman above him… I think that’s a mistake. In fact, BP at least had Carter far above Freeman and Morrison and one spot behind Villalona. Maybe Im wrong and people properly value Carter… I just kind of doubt it.

by alskor on Jun 10, 2025 3:16 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed

I like that he’s improved his BB rate and massively cut down his K rate.

If only 5 of those doubles turned to homers this year, people would be fawning over him.

He’s a tiny bit old for his league, but nobody has a question about his power. If he can maintain a 20% K rate, it’s going to be tough for him NOT to be a valuable major league player.

I like that he’s improved his BB rate and massively cut down his K rate.

Yep.

I think it would be pretty hard to justify Freeman over him at this point, and I like Freeman a lot. Morrison, well, it is hard to judge a guy with 17 ABs this year. I think I’d probably still take Morrison at this point.

Carter's home/road splits

home: .377/.504/.689 24BB 19K

away: .223/.302/.347 13BB 36K

Cardenas and Corey Brown are also significantly better at home. On the other hand, Donaldson is about the same either way, and Sulentic is far better on the road. I don’t know what it all means.

by ozzman99 on Jun 11, 2025 4:29 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Probably doesn't mean much, but who knows

People put too much stock in H/R splits sometimes. Midland is a very mild hitters park overall, but suppresses home runs. It is very unlikely that park effects are responsible for the differences here.

by aCone419 on Jun 11, 2025 5:14 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah

if its still that disparate in August it might raise my eyebrow. Right now… not a concern. Midland isnt like Coors Field or New Yankee Stadium. Also, pretty much every player hits better at home. Obviously not that much better, but you shouldnt expect to see an even split. An uneven split favoring home is natural.

If Carter moves up on

the top 100 List, where does Joseph Dunigan fall in?

He is at: .355/.431/.688 w/ 14 HR / 51 RBI & 18 doubles, 1 Triple 25 BB/42 K, 11 SB/4 CS

??????

by jepmotors on Jun 10, 2025 3:25 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

As a 23 year old in A+coming off a .720 OPS season in A ball?

He doesn’t.

Carter has a far more impressive track record and is younger at a higher level.

by Galt on Jun 10, 2025 6:08 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not to mention

Dunigan is playing in High Desert.

by aCone419 on Jun 11, 2025 10:06 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

really?

I hope you’re joking. It’s like playing with a metal bat out there. You hit the ball on the barrell in the air and it’s virtually an automatic homerun.

by richieabernathy on Jun 11, 2025 10:18 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

HD

It had the second highest over park factor in the minors last year, after Albuquerque, and has a HR pf of 1.24, which is astoundingly high.

by aCone419 on Jun 11, 2025 10:30 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Look at his home/road splits

Road: .277/.365/.505 4 HRs
Home: .430/.484/.884 10 HRs

he's going to be a 3rd or 4th starter

He reminds me of a RH Jon Niese, no lie and Niese might have better stuff.

by Bravesin07 on Jun 10, 2025 7:57 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Of course

This makes little sense doesn’t it because Jon Niese isn’t a 3 or 4 starter - hes 0-6 7.36 in AAA

Alderson has MILES better command - last 2 seasons, counting today - 204.2 IP, 9 HRS, 39BB 173 Ks. This proves nothing i suppose but just that I really LIKE him. I love guys who know how to pitch but people dont like. If he wasnt so TALENTED he could join other guys i like like Clippard, Marcum, Inman etc.

I love his chances better than those guys though- great pitch efficiency and deception and a tough competitor- good stuff and great command - and 2 years younger than Jon Niese

Henry Sosa

Went in game 2 btw instead of Bumgarner

Pitched well also 6-7-2-2-2-2

Now 5-0 2.21 in AA

human beings, who are almost unique in their ability to learn from the experiences of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
