Juan Cruz
What is the story with Juan Cruz. Will he find a team? How much of a contributor will he be?
I'm in a keeper league and need to add an RP. I have been offered Cruz and a 3rd round pick in 2010', for my 1st round pick in 09'.
I'm in the dark about this Cruz situation. He's a talented pitcher but also is labeled as an "A" type player. MLB teams do not want to give up that much, etc.
Please shed some light on this situation and would you make this deal, abeit a minor one?
Thanks in advance

Cruz may end up in MN
He is working on a sign and trade deal where ARZ signs him and trades him to MN. Haven’t heard whose going to ARZ. I like Cruz and would potentailly be a setup man for the twins. I’m not sure who would be available for you typically in the first round. It all depends on how much middle relievers help in your league.

Fantasy wise, I agree with garrioch13. If your league rewards holds, he is of that much more valuable. Moreover, I think that MLB and the MLBPA are opening up a mess in “real” baseball. I don’t think they should sign off on these sign and trade deals for Type “A” free agents. The union and MLB agreed through arbitration on what the parent clubs compensation should be. Allowing the team to solict offers while working around the system is the equilivant of trading draft picks - something I would be in favor of, but currently not allowed.

He's nothing special at all
I certainly wouldnt trade anything for him in a fantasy league. Im pretty shocked he’s made this much news this offseason, though to be fair its essentially because he’s a fluke Type A who isnt good enough for anyone to consider giving up a 1st rounder for. Take a look how many teams have given up on this guy… he’s a nice arm, but he’s just an average-ish pitcher.

Average-ish?
What do you think makes Brad Lidge drastically different from Cruz?

Agreed
Juan Cruz may not be the greatest, but he aint shabby either. I’m not a fan of any relief pitcher being classified as a type A just from a standpoint of their overall contribution is not a big enough piece of the pie, even so - Juan Cruz is not average-ish
