True

I don’t know the real stats, but I would think one of the other hundreds of pitchers drafted usually ends up better than the top 2.

True

Not because I like anyone better than those two, but because when it comes to first round pitching, I think it’s probably good play here to bet the field. If I really liked either of these guys enough, though I’d make an exception.

I think I like Matusz best, but he doesn’t stand out quite enough for me to bet on him here.

False

There no outstanding HS pitchers in this draft like Porcello or Parker or Kershaw. I like Crow more than Hunt, Matusz, and Shceppers

This draft very weak in front line pitching if you havent noticed.

True

I think it’s Matusz right now but the odds say one of the few hundred other pitchers selected will be better.

True

I think they are by far the best prospects but how would someone take 2 guys over the entire remaining field? The law of averages would dictate that this answer if true.

Matusz is a good pitcher, but he may not be the second pitcher drafted if he was right-handed. Crow has shown that is human over his last few starts. So, there’s a very good chance that someone else takes that honor. This is a hard question to quantify, though. Different stats can tell different stories and chances are that there won’t be a clear-cut best pitcher like a Roger Clemens out this class.

False

It will be one of them.

False

One of the two will be the best since the draft class for pitcher takes a big fall after those 2 are gone.

question for everyone

Would Porcello be taken ahead of Price and Crow/Matsuz if the draft were held today as the minors best pitching prospect

Response

Eh, maybe. Price really impressed the Rays in camp and I have to think they still like him a whole bunch.

The only real question is whether or not you’re concerned with his forearm strain. I don’t think it’s a big deal for the moment so I think Price sticks to the top. Porcello would come next, and certainly he’s impressed everyone. Very talented and evaluations of him suggest that he’s got both the stuff and the command to move fast.

But wow, those two are light-years ahead of Crow and Matusz IMO. They’re both nice prospects but not guys that I’d get overly excited about, particularly Matusz.

I think that the 2nd tier is full of boom or bust guys....

Scheppers, Hunt, and Cole really all strike me as guys that have a pretty noticeable flaw, but none of them are too big for them to be corrected. I like Scheppers a whole lot, and if he can prove he can stay healthy, I really do expect great things.

Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

Matusz is at the top of my board followed by Lance Lynn but Lynn is much further down. I have Lynn just ahead of Crow.

True

I don’t have anyone in particular, but I’m not excited by either one, especially Crow. They don’t stand out like the top pitchers from the last couple of drafts. The field wins this race.

Gotta bet the field when it comes to pitchers. Injuries happen so often that betting on any 2 pitchers to outperform their counterparts is folly.
