Minor League Projection: Ian Stewart

Ian Stewart in high school

Last week, someone suggested that we try some minor league projections. So let's do one. Ian Stewart of the Rockies. Assume he starts the year at Modesto in the Class A California League.

Project his line at Modesto: G, AB, BA, OBP, SLG, HR. If you think he gets promoted to Double-A (or higher) at some point, project that too.

awesome
Thanks for using my suggestion.  If only my boss would listen to me...

Modesto:  50 G, 185 AB, .325/.390/.560, 12 HR

Tulsa:  85 G, 300 AB, .310/.385/.550, 17 HR

Hopefully we can do Barton/Delmon for batters and maybe an oddball or two in Ryan Sweeney and/or Jeff Niemann?  If not Niemann, I think a trying to project a highly touted college or HS player making his pro debut would be interesting because we don't really have any past #'s to base a WAG.

Wha?
You're actually thinking that Tampa would dump Niemann or Delmon? They won't ever leave Tampa, unless they choose to.

What..
the hell are you talking about?  Who said anything about  dumping/leaving Tampa?  I asked for their projections to be done.  Please refrain from posting right after hittin' the pipe.

Ian
Fairly optimistic projection, not to mention that Colorado's system is all hitter-friendly....

Modesto: 45/175/.305/.385/.580/12
Tulsa: 75/230/.281/.372/.530/15
Colorado: 10/17/.352/.389/.647/1 (tiny sample alert - 6/17 with 2 2b and a HR)

stewart
modesto: 85 games,285 AB, .305/.408/.570, and 20 HR
tulsa: 55 games,  190 AB, .280/.385/.500, and 9 HR

And one note for you all, he is not going to colorado for a few at bats not with atkins and baker in front of him right now for 3rd base.  i see baker getting at bats in the pros but not stewart unless atkins or baker gets traded.

Talent can not make up for hard work.

Hmmm
How about

Modesto  87 games  .328/.412/.580  19 hr
Tulsa   48 games   .298/.378/.575  11 hr

No call up to Colorado, but watch out next spring training.

while we're talking Rockies infield prospects...
...an even more interesting question is whether Jeff Baker will see time at 2B at Colorado Springs. I'm holding Atkins, Baker and Stewart, and what I'd really like to see is Baker taking over 2B longterm...supposedly he has the tools to field the position...any word on that?

The man is a beast
Modesto: 85 G, 300 AB, .325/.410/.600, 17 HR
Tulsa: 55 G, 180 AB, .315/.400/.575, 10 HR

And he gets a cup o' coffee in Colorado in September.
Rockies: 10 G, 20 AB, .280/.340/.500, 5 HR

by delomir on Mar 28, 2026 2:47 PM EST   0 recs

Stewart:
Modesto:  100 games, 400 AB/.320/.390/.595/28 hr

AA:  20 games, 80 AB/.300/.370/.550/4 hr

Not knowing what their plans are, I would say at his age he stays at high A ball most of the year.

Re: Jeff Baker
Baker's being converted to the outfield. That's why he stuck around with the big club for so long this spring: he's been working on his OF skills with Dave Collins, who's the 1B Coach for the Rox.

With his move, and Matt Macri's move to 2B, the 3B hierarchy in the Rox system looks like this: Atkins, Stewart. Dustin Hahn is a sleeper at the position.
