The Freak Returns

Former two time National League Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum returned to action last night, throwing one relief inning for Round Rock Express, the Triple A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Making his first appearance since August 16, 2016, Lincecum threw one inning against the Iowa Cubs in relief of starter Austin Bibens-Dirks.

Lincecum entered in the fifth inning with Round Rock leading 5-3. He walked his first batter (ball one was a pitch clock violation) and after a stolen base allowed an RBI double to Mike Freeman. After a ground out and wild pitch the score was tied at 5 but he settled down and struck out the last two batters of the inning.

Overall he threw fifteen pitches, nine for strikes and admitted to being nervous with the first three hitters.

Lincecum signed with the Rangers during spring training and was making his first appearance after spending time on the disabled list with a blister on his middle finger. He will pitch out of the bullpen once he joins the Rangers.

Despite the nerves Lincecum remains as confident as ever as the picture shows as he pitched without a glove.
