SABR CEO Marc Appleman Announces Resignation

News Release, Phoenix Arizona, Friday, May 11th:

Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) Chief Executive Officer Marc Appleman announced his resignation effective July 6th in order to pursue another career opportunity which he will disclose shortly.

Appleman, 60, joined SABR as Executive Director in June, 2010 and was promoted to his current role as CEO in 2015. Under his watch, the SABR office relocated to Phoenix from it's original home in Cleveland in 2011. Appleman was the driving force in the founding of the SABR Analytics Conference in 2012 which led to a partnership with MLB Advanced Media.

From this deal SABR gained the right to license MLB intellectual property, joined with MLB and Rawlings to incorporate the SABR Defensive Index into the Gold Glove Award voting process and established and established an internship program wiith the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University, where the SABR office is now located.

Prior to joining SABR Appleman spent his career in the media, covering the San Diego sports scene for the Los Angeles Times, serving as Senior Coordinating Editor of SportsNation at ESPN New Media, Director of Programing at AOL Sports and, Managing Editor at FoxSports.com among others.

SABR President Vince Gennaro accepted Appleman's resignation with gratitude and will soon announce a search committee to find his replacement.
