Good morning everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Morning Report for Monday, May 14th, 2018. Let’s begin.
****Tampa Bay Rays shortstop prospect Willy Adames went 3-for-5 on Saturday then 3-for-5 on Sunday for Triple-A Durham. He’s now hitting .320/.399/.467 on the season while playing quality shortstop. There’s nothing left for him to learn in the minors at this stage.
****Minnesota Twins right-hander Fernando Romero had his third-straight strong start with one run allowed over five innings Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels. Unfortunately for Romero his opponent was Shohei Ohtani who fanned 11 over 6.1 innings, the Angels winning by a 2-1 score.
****Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta gave up just one hit over 5.2 innings in his MLB debut against the Colorado Rockies in Coors Field, walking two and striking out 13. We will have a rookie profile of him posted later today.
****Atlanta Braves third base prospect Austin Riley went 4-for-5 with three homers and eight RBI for Triple-A Gwinnett yesterday. He’s up to .336/.393/.680 on the season.
****Seattle Mariners first base prospect Dan Vogelbach went 2-for-4 with two homers for Triple-A Tacoma. He’s hit .455 over his last 10 games.
****New York Mets farmhand Jeff McNeil hit for the cycle yesterday for the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
****After a rough start to his season Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene looked much better Saturday for Low-A Dayton, throwing four shutout innings with two hits allowed, zero walks, and five strikeouts. He was hitting 100 MPH as usual but his secondary pitches and overall ability to locate were much improved.
****More highlights can be found in the Saturday and Sunday Gameday discussion threads.
