After a tie in the regular voting, Ventura and Stroman couldn't have been any closer in the runoff. Ventura ends up edging Stroman 9-8. Complete voting results from the 8th round are in the runoff thread. Given how close the runoff voting was, that we have already had the opportunity to thoroughly discuss both of these guys, and that our inclusion of second place voting makes it very clear that if returned to the ballot, Stroman would win next round, I've decided to make them our winners of the #8 and #9 spots on our list, and move along to #10.
1. Jose Abreu 1b Chicago White Sox
2. Xander Bogaerts SS/3B Boston Red Sox
3. Masahiro Tanaka Pitcher New York Yankees
4. Mookie Betts 2b/OF Boston Red Sox
5. Gregory Polanco OF Pittsburgh Pirates
6. George Spinger OF Houston Astros
7. Oscar Taveras OF St Louis Cardinals
8. Yordano Ventura Pitcher Kansas City Royals
9. Marcus Stroman Pitcher Toronto Blue Jays
James Paxton only got a single second place vote last round, and there were no votes for Betances, so both will be temporarily dropped.
There was a lot of write in voting last round among players that had been recently dropped. So, we'll bring back Jake Odorizzi (who was due anyway), and based on their support last round, Rougned Odor, Travis D'Arnaud and Nick Castellanos.. Next round I'm expecting to add Billy Hamilton and Danny Santana.
Until then, this leaves as temporarily dropped:
Danny Santana 0 votes (round 4), Colin McHugh 0 votes (round 6), Billy Hamilton 1 vote (round 6), James Paxton 1 vote (round 8), Dellin Bentances 0 votes (round 8)
We are also adding Kolton Wong to the ballot for the first time.
Players who are still on the list to get their first time on the ballot are Ender Inciarte, Kevin Kiermaier (1 vote round 7), Ken Giles, Jackie Bradley, Jr., Roenis Elias, Matt Shoemaker and Trevor Bauer. Absent write in votes, I'm inclined to add them in pretty much the order I have them listed. If you want someone sooner, or someone else you think deserves consideration for the top 20 that isn't listed, please suggest below..
As a reminder, voting is by +1 for your first choice and +2 for your second choice. Three points will be awarded for each +1 vote and 1 point for each +2 vote.
So, who is your #10 prospect among last year's rookie class?
