Since 2008 we've annually done a community project of rating the prior year's rookie classes. In contrast to the Rookie of the Year Award, which is mostly a "player of the year" award for rookies, our project seeks to rate their likely future careers. In other words to rate them as prospects, the same way we would do when we do the community prospect list.
Players eligible for the list are those who were rookies going into the 2014 season, and who because of at bats, innings pitched or time on roster are no longer rookies going into 2015. At least theoretically, there shouldn't be any overlap between players eligible for this list and players eligible for the community prospects list.
Anyway, over the years, our #1s have been:
2008- Evan Longoria
2009- Matt Wieters-
2010- Jason Heyward
2011- Brett Lawrie
2012- Mike Trout
2013- Jose Fernandez
Our first round contestants for this year will be Jose Abreu, Nick Castellanos, Masahiro Tanaka, Mookie Betts, Jake Odorizzi, Gregory Polanco, Oscar Taveras, Xander Bogaerts, and Marcus Stroman.
Not on the first round ballot, but likely to get on quickly as testers are Colin McHugh, Jake deGrom, Kevin Gausman, James Paxton, and Rougned Odor. Of course you are welcome to vote for one of these guys, or any other last year rookie not mentioned, in the first round, or any other round, by write in.
Voting this round will be by +1. I will list the candidates. Put in a +1 as a reply under who you support. The goal is to encourage discussion, please keep that below the voting.
Sp. let's get started. Who is the #1 prospect for future performance among last year's rookie class? Who do you want added to the ballot next round? And if you want voting to be done in future rounds by some method other than +1 ;et's get that discussed and decided now.
