Bell or Cuthbert?
Looking for a little advice. I have the next pick in the minor league portion of my league. The league has the following categories: BB, Avg, HR, 2B plus 3B (one category), SB-CS. I've narrowed my picks to Josh Bell or Cuthbert. I'm leaning Bell, given that he already has a reputation for controlling the strike zone. They seem somewhat similar to me: a good chance to contribute well in all categories save SB-CS. John Sickels write ups seems to point to a higher BB potential for Bell. Cuthbert's younger and has already played in A ball, but Bell seems to have a somewhat higher ceiling for this league (I'm basing that on my interpretation of John's writeups mostly). Anyone have any thoughts?

It's tough
to say anything too definitve about Bell since he’s yet to make his pro-debut. What I will say is that he has looked good so far this spring and does have massive power potential. As a high schooler, Bell did walk a ton (~35% IIRC) but if I were a high school pitcher, I wouldn’t want to throw Josh Bell a strike either so I don’t know how much you can really take from that. Sorry if that wasn’t at all helpful, haha.

I think
Rendon came close to that in college.
80/294.. whatever that is… over 25%

Well
Pretty close. Bell walked 48 times in 147 PAs which comes to a 32.7% walk rate.

would be interesting
to see how many of them were intentional or “unintentional” intentional walks. High school base on ball totals need to be taken with a grain of salt and cannot truly be used when determining discipline

Completely agree
If you were a high school sophomore with a 75 mph fastball and a spinning curveball, would you want to pitch to a kid with 1st round talent who was swinging a metal bat? I’d take my chances with whoever was on deck…

example
an example of this was when I was in high school we played against Ben Diggins (1st round pick by Dodgers). He was 6’7", 250 pounds mashing 450ft bombs but the rest of his team was terrible. Our coach told us we were to either walk him intentionally or pitch around him. The rule was we could either K him or walk him, but anytime he put a ball in play (even if it was out) we had to run a mile.
result, 1st at bat he actually swung at 2 curves in the dirt before walking but the rest of the game he didn’t take the bat off his shoulder.
hard to chalk up those walks to plate discipline
