i dont see how it is any different
than all the people on here that were kissing bryce harpers ass before he ever saw a professional pitch, or how it’s any different from other people that are constantly posting when their favorite prospects are going. parker is clearly his favorite prospect. nothing wrong with that
that being said, if he is stalking the guy, he needs help big time

Really?
There’s a difference between posting your favorite prospects line for the night, and sleeping nude outside his bedroom window, if you ask me.

Parker
Parker had 2 dreadful starts to the season where he gave up 15 runs in 5 innings. His era since then is around 2.50. He hasnt given up a home run in more than 15 games and his ground ball rates are impressive.
He is a bit older than Skaggs but he has lost a year, that doesnt mean we should hold it against him. Klaw still has Parker in his top 25 and said to be patient with his development this year.
by 301Madison on Aug 23, 2025 9:38 AM EDT up reply actions
i think parker goes above skaggs as well

Really though, what does Parker have on Skaggs at this point?
Its not like Skaggs doesn’t have great stuff as well and his performance this year has just been ridiculous. There’s a reason he was already cracking BA’s top 20 prospects at midseason.

Reading comprehension FTW
My point clearly wasn’t that he will be successful because he’s rated high. My point was the he’s rated high because he has great stuff. Stuff isn’t really a reason to put Parker ahead of Skaggs. I don’t see much of a reason too period.
by nixa37 on Aug 23, 2025 6:06 PM EDT up reply actions
ok
parker was ranked top 10, top 15 at worst before he went down with injury. nobody is arguing skaggs is a great prospect, but so far you havent eluded to specifics regarding his “stuff”. doing so might sway some people
by rangersfan24 on Aug 23, 2025 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions
Parker never cracked BA's top 25, not sure about elsewhere
Haven’t seen anything real recent reports on Skaggs, but last I saw he was sitting low 90s with good movement and command of his fastball, plus curve, and solid change. I’m sort of assuming the reports on his stuff were strong for BA to go so aggressive on his ranking and for Law to move him up ~50 spots. The numbers this season have been insane too. Parker has never dominated like this at any point in his career.
Now that I talked about Skaggs, why don’t you try to sway some people and make a case for Parker. I just don’t see what he has on Skaggs outside of fastball velocity.

I wonder if they’re limiting his off-speed pitches and that is reducing his Ks.

because it seems low relative to what his stuff would imply

I am trading the crap out of him this offseason
Unless scouting reports start indicating either 1. He can play SS at MLB level and 2. he will be able to hit at least .270.
Not sold on either, but I’m guessing someone will give me something nice for the gaudy SB numbers.

I was unaware that scouting reports were overly pessimistic on either of those
by mrkupe on Aug 22, 2025 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions
It's more that I've never heard GOOD things about his SS play
and most SS prospects who aren’t very slick with the leather stay at SS (particularly if they also project as 2B-types). I’ve read a few reports that indicate that good fastballs can simply knock the bat out of his hands. He’s been much better in the 2nd half, so maybe he figured something out.

hamilton
I think he’ll retain his range well enough, better than most players his age, so I think shortstop will stay on the table for him. That’s more of a gut instinct call.
Hitting-wise, he lacks strength at this point and his swing is pretty raw, so it’s not a huge surprise that he has struggled a bit. I don’t think he’s more than a 50 future hitter, 55 in best case, but his speed could help that play up.
by mrkupe on Aug 23, 2025 12:40 AM EDT up reply actions
I might hang onto him
There was something that drew me to him beyond just the raw SB, after all. But I’ll definitely float him out there and see if anyone’s willing to give me a more stable prospect. Thanks for the input.

haven't seen enough of his arm to comment on that
That would be the major issue for him defensively, though. I think there is a little potential for him to improve on that, however, given his build. He’s not just slight of build at this point, he’s small. Adding some strength might give that arm an extra tick, and I can buy that his speed and athleticism will keep his range playable.
Is there any player who doesn’t look/project better defensively at 2B than SS? Still, I think his biggest obstacle to playing shortstop in this organization is simply that they already have some interesting guys who can handle it, rather than his own lack of potential.
by mrkupe on Aug 23, 2025 9:54 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah
Cozart and Gregorius are two SS of major league caliber ahead of him. Torreyes is probably the best defensive 2B in the system too, so there’s going to be some interesting shuffling next year to find everyone a spot out of ST as Henry Rodriguez is also playing a lot of 2B this year, though he’s already in Double-A and is no obstacle long term.

Rickey likes Hamilton's stats
Rickey said that Rickey likes Hamilton and thinks that Rickey’s speed is a tad better than BillyHam.
I realize their bats are nowhere similar & they play very different positions, but just in reference to speed I found this on baseball cube:
Henderson, 18 years old in Modesto (A+) 481 AB 95 SB while playing 3B!!!
Henderson, 19 years old in Jersey City (AA ) 455 AB 81 SB, 28 CS
Would Henderson & Hamilton both be considered to have 80 speed?
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.

He’s a big-ass lefty. He threw hard and was the 12th player the Mariners sweetened the pot with to get Eric Bedard. Then his arm fell off in 2008. He came back and couldn’t hit the broad side of the barn for a few years, was released twice last year, wound up back in the organization that drafted him initially. It appears he has at least moderately re-learned the art of pitching.

he is screaming red flag with the drop in velocity and command. The list of free agents after next year is huge. Especially in the SP department. by miraclemets on Aug 23, 2025 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions
You sure? Based on what exactly?
Montero isn’t hit RHP at all over the course of the season (.278/.335/.399) at AAA, while Posada still hits them well enough (.275/.374/.453). Against LHP, they already have Andruw tearing it up (.273/.379/.525), so I’m not exactly sure when Montero proved he could do better than either side that platoon (who combine for something around a 130 wRC+).
by nixa37 on Aug 23, 2025 10:31 AM EDT up reply actions
LOL
your defintion of “tearing it up” is sad…273/.379/.525? seriously?
you’re basing your 130wRC+ on this year. please look at Montero’s historical stats and tell me Andruw will outperform a MOTIVATED Jesus Montero over the next 6 weeks of the season. sabermetrics will only get you so far.
by apoxonbothyourhouses on Aug 23, 2025 5:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Andruw vs LHP for his career is 50 points above what he does against
RHP and the last two years it’s been 900.
I’m not sure what Montero’s historical stats will tell us. Since his stats were compiled in the minors against lower competition while playing a defensive position.
by pedrophile on Aug 23, 2025 5:49 PM EDT up reply actions
You don't consider a 150 wRC+ tearing it up? Seriously?
I mean there are 14 guys in baseball with a better wRC+ than that on the season. Andruw is posting great numbers against LHP this season.
I like how you rip on me for using this years stats to make my point and then proceed to use nothing to backup your point. What are you using? Preseason prospect rankings and AAA stats? That’s a recipe for success right there…

Brandon Allen with a HR
Now hitting .288/.394/.593 in 59 2011 ABs, with 2 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, and 10BB:17K.
I think he has to be in the mix for Oakland’s starting 1B job in 2012. With the playing time he’s getting lately, the A’s might view him as the tentative frontrunner, no?

if he keeps hitting anything remotely like this, I don't think he has to worry about having a job next year

And another one after that
Two mammoth shots, first one up in the third deck. One of the more impressive home runs I’ve seen any Athletic hit in a while. Or, one of the home runs I’ve seen any Athletic hit in a while.
No doubt he’s the frontrunner. Hope they let Carter run with the DH job and give Taylor a corner.
"BA doesn't stand for Batting Average. It’s Brandon Allen, as in the percentage of a hitter’s worth compared to Brandon Allen. Ted Williams, at his best, was only 4/10th of the hitter Brandon Allen is today." - YonYonson
