Oh dear, Ricky

Ricky says...

“Ricky plays the game hard and Ricky hit a home run. How can Ricky not smile when Ricky stars at an all-star classic? Ricky was the MVP and Ricky took home plate home with him to sit in Ricky’s trophy case.”

I really wish...

Rickey could’ve played in the MLB forever.

by Franchise887 on Jul 13, 2025 6:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Ricky says,

“Ricky could have played forever. Ricky was the greatest of all-time. Ricky played in the softball game because Ricky wanted to show the world what Ricky knows already, that if you use Ricky as a knuckleball specialist Ricky will get on base. Ricky says, GMs should use Ricky as RA Dickey + Tim Wakefield insurance. Plus Ricky will show younger Rickies how they can Ricky their way into almost as many stolen bases as the stolen base king!”

Ubaldo

What’s the probability he gets a K in the first inning when facing Ichiro, Jeter, Cabrera and possibly Hamilton? This streak for the cash contest has me going bonkers.

price

Anyone remember that a year ago, people were disappointed in David Price?

by John Sickels on Jul 13, 2025 8:04 PM EDT reply actions

heh

Take a look at the guys who made it . . .Price, Hughes, Buchholz, Cahill. We have such quick triggers these days to drop these guys for the “next big thing” . . .

To be fair he completely changed as a pitcher

People were worried because the slider seriously regressed last year. Since then he’s added a good CB which has replaced the slider as his primary breaking pitch. I don’t think anyone could have foreseen that development. Without it I doubt he’d be having the sort of success he’s currently enjoying.

Not baseball related

But you gotta think it’s a bad sign for Christina Aguilera when your most famous song is being sung at the All Star game, a couple of months after you released your “come back” CD . . .and said song isn’t being sung by you.

Ethier in CF?

Really? Man, that’s some ugly fielding in the NL outfield.

by oplaid on Jul 13, 2025 9:17 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah But

The fans don’t vote for specific positions. Luckily other than Braun’s diving catch, there weren’t too many hard hit ball to the OF. It’s also funny you posted that then have the ninth inning completely change its complexion with an outstanding play by Marlon Byrd who had a really good game.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Nice photo of “the greatest of all time”

Byrd coulda caught that flyball in the 9th instead of watch it drop

Few things on him. 1. He runs like he got something strapped to his back) 2. took a bad route to the ball) 3. slowed down) 4. And he probably coulda dove for the ball and have a slight chance (although it is David Ortiz) to get a double play.

If his throw was off or not in time he woula looked real bad for not getting that.

gonna have to disagree with you there, bob...

i did think he took a less than great route to the ball, but it did bend quite a bit, too. either way, i don’t think he catches that ball. i think the slow down is him realizing he’s not going to get it and adjusting to the best option left.

it may not be the greatest play in the world, but it did show he had his head in the game, which i will take, as a cubs fan, over the other 7 guys we put out there every day.

Really?

There was absolutely no way possible that Ortiz would have been doubled off first. That’s why he was thrown out at second. You just sound like a bitter AL fan who can’t handle them losing to the better team.

BTW, if you want to throw around ifs, I have a better one. If the third base coach doesn’t hold up Wright at third base, he scores easily when Hamilton misses home plate by ten feet on his throw from right field. That took a run off the board at a time when the pitchers were dominating the game. Byrd made a great play that pretty much ended the AL’s rally. Style points count for nothing.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Let's not call it a great play

If he doesn’t get a terrible late break on the ball he catches it rather easily. It was a very heads up play to get the ball out so quickly and nail Ortiz, but it really shouldn’t have come to that.

Sky Kalkman: So I think the Braves should trade for Alex Gonzalez and his .296 OBP. Anyone else?

Will McDonald: Yunel Escobar should get that done.

Eric Simon: Which poor-hitting Alex Gonzalez did they get again?

Will McDonald: Didn't the other one retire?

Adam J. Morris: I wish an Alex Gonzalez had been traded for a Brian Hunter. Or a Bobby Jones.

Jeff Sullivan: So what does anyone know about Tim Collins?

Eric Stephen: Not as good as a Tom Collins.

Eric Simon: Seems like a bad talent swap for the Braves. How important is attitude?

Adam J. Morris: Hard to say on attitude. We aren't there, we don't know what the issues there really are.

Will McDonald: The pro-Braves people are overrating both attitude and Collins tonight.

Eric Simon: What teams are over/underperforming to this point?

Jeff Sullivan: Reds overperforming, Cardinals under.

Jeff Sullivan: Cards are the way better team.

Adam J. Morris: Twins underperforming.

Jeff Sullivan: The NL West is ridiculous, meanwhile.

Adam J. Morris: It seems like Cincy really wants to make a big deal.

Jeff Sullivan: I think Cincy wants to prove it belongs.

Sky Kalkman: Orioles are underperforming.

Adam J. Morris: Not against Texas

Eric Simon: So who else gets moved at the deadline? Roy Oswalt?

Jeff Sullivan: Ty Wigginton! Ty Wigginton is an All-Star infielder.

Sky Kalkman: Can Wiggy reenter every game the rest of the year?

Jeff Sullivan: Why would you ever take him out?

Jeff Sullivan: Any big predicted standings changes in the second half?

Jeff Sullivan: I say Cards blow by the Reds.

Sky Kalkman: I'll take the Twins and Cards and Rockies.

Will McDonald: Do the Rangers get to play the Astros anymore?

Eric Simon: Phillies get healthy and make a run.

Jeff Sullivan: NL west has four legitimate World Series representatives.

Will McDonald: I think Boston makes two good moves and gets a playoff spot.

Eric Simon: World series predictions?

Jeff Sullivan: Yanks/Cards. Cards win in 7, because This Time It Counted.

Adam J. Morris: Rangers vs Braves. Elvis Andrus is series MVP, and Neftali Feliz closes out Game 7.

Eric Simon: I'll go Yanks Padres. 1998 rematch.

Sky Kalkman: Rangers/Rockies, because who the hell knows?

Jeff Sullivan: Would love to see Texas emerge from the AL.

Will McDonald: Rockies/Red Sox.
