I don't know

I always pictured LaLoosh to be one of those that shine brightly and dominantly for a few years before blowing out their arm, ala Steve Avery

or a closer

in the Mitch Williams mold for a few years. Just seemed like he was primed for a little more success than this.

bummer.

Always had high hopes for that kid.

Not bad, actually

… Wound up a couple years later with a smokin’ older wife who drove a Thunderbird convertible :-)

nuke

The idea is that he was rushed to the majors prematurely because he had a major league contract…sort of like Todd Van Poppel.

In the movie the Braves promoted him directly from A-ball to the majors after, what, two good months? Had to be a contract/agent issue….:)

Still

Its depressing. I figured he would have broken big, had 4-5 years of dominance and 12 years of solid baseball, then Crash woulda given his intro speech at his HoF induction.

Post Baseball Nuke would have gotten a reality show on VH1 a la Rock of Love. I’m thinking “Strike Out”

Braves made a strange decision

I don’t mind the career arch John, but I do have an issue with how quickly the Braves gave up on LaLoosh.

You have them dropping him from the 40 man roster after his age 22 season? That seems a little early to me, even with his poor command and 10 cent head I think he would have gotten 3 or 4 more year between AAA and the big leagues. Maybe with a trade or two before a team outrights him in like ‘95-’96 after he loses some velo. Then he becomes a marginal reliever.

I think you essentially left out the middle of his career.

Like Rick Bosetti my goal in life is not to do well but to piss on things.

Only 69 walks in Durham?

Didn’t he have like 16 in the one start alone?

“Sixteen strikeouts. New league record.”

“Sixteen walks. Also a new league record.”

"You can't be afraid to play somebody because they've got 3 really good players. How are you going to win if you're afraid to play? We're not going to be afraid to play - we're going to fight, we're going to attack, we're going to throw it out there and see what happens." - Carlos Boozer

and under 6 IP/GS?

I think they abused him most of the year, throwing late into games a lot as recall-even when he was pitching poorly.

Yes, but at that time he was pitching out of the wrong side of his brain

As soon as he starting wearing Annie’s lingerie, he started pitching out of the right side, and his control was masterful. Not to mention the fact he was also using his primal eye just like Fernando.

Don’t forget breathing through his eye lids like a lizard. Very important mechanical technique there.

Don't forget his first outing

Thanks John! This is awesome! Very romantic that ’88 was the best year of his career.

Sky Kalkman: So I think the Braves should trade for Alex Gonzalez and his .296 OBP. Anyone else?

Will McDonald: Yunel Escobar should get that done.

Eric Simon: Which poor-hitting Alex Gonzalez did they get again?

Will McDonald: Didn't the other one retire?

Adam J. Morris: I wish an Alex Gonzalez had been traded for a Brian Hunter. Or a Bobby Jones.

Jeff Sullivan: So what does anyone know about Tim Collins?

Eric Stephen: Not as good as a Tom Collins.

Eric Simon: Seems like a bad talent swap for the Braves. How important is attitude?

Adam J. Morris: Hard to say on attitude. We aren't there, we don't know what the issues there really are.

Will McDonald: The pro-Braves people are overrating both attitude and Collins tonight.

Eric Simon: What teams are over/underperforming to this point?

Jeff Sullivan: Reds overperforming, Cardinals under.

Jeff Sullivan: Cards are the way better team.

Adam J. Morris: Twins underperforming.

Jeff Sullivan: The NL West is ridiculous, meanwhile.

Adam J. Morris: It seems like Cincy really wants to make a big deal.

Jeff Sullivan: I think Cincy wants to prove it belongs.

Sky Kalkman: Orioles are underperforming.

Adam J. Morris: Not against Texas

Eric Simon: So who else gets moved at the deadline? Roy Oswalt?

Jeff Sullivan: Ty Wigginton! Ty Wigginton is an All-Star infielder.

Sky Kalkman: Can Wiggy reenter every game the rest of the year?

Jeff Sullivan: Why would you ever take him out?

Jeff Sullivan: Any big predicted standings changes in the second half?

Jeff Sullivan: I say Cards blow by the Reds.

Sky Kalkman: I'll take the Twins and Cards and Rockies.

Will McDonald: Do the Rangers get to play the Astros anymore?

Eric Simon: Phillies get healthy and make a run.

Jeff Sullivan: NL west has four legitimate World Series representatives.

Will McDonald: I think Boston makes two good moves and gets a playoff spot.

Eric Simon: World series predictions?

Jeff Sullivan: Yanks/Cards. Cards win in 7, because This Time It Counted.

Adam J. Morris: Rangers vs Braves. Elvis Andrus is series MVP, and Neftali Feliz closes out Game 7.

Eric Simon: I'll go Yanks Padres. 1998 rematch.

Sky Kalkman: Rangers/Rockies, because who the hell knows?

Jeff Sullivan: Would love to see Texas emerge from the AL.

Will McDonald: Rockies/Red Sox.
