Re:

Is there no chance he plays SS? I think I remember reading that BOS had moved him to 2B. Obviously that’s Pedroia territory…Does Tejeda profile anywhere else?

by Dfarth on Apr 24, 2025 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions

My guess is LF in Boston or another organization.

by hrv1978 on Apr 24, 2025 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think he's a SS.

Range isn’t that great, even though he’s pretty fast. The arm is strong, but not accurate.

There’s been some speculation among those who follow him that he’s less stressed playing 2B and that’s lead to the breakout.

Could definitely see LF or even 3B. The bat still needs some work, too, though…

The approach...

I love seeing middle infielders hitting for pop and stealing bases, but 1 BB and 11 K in 14 games speaks to me at least as much as the 4 HRs do.

by PissedMick on Apr 25, 2025 7:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Hicks

The HR was wind aided and still needed a a cansecoesque bounce to clear the wall. The other two hits were so weakly struck that he was able to use his speed to beat them out. So to recap nothing but swinging bunts and cans of corn. Nothing to see here move along

tragically

Youtube wiped all of the Der Untergang parody videos earlier this week . . .“Hitler says Aaron Hicks’ swing sucks” and “Hitler thinks Madison Bumgarner is overrated” would have been the best thing I’ve seen all month.

Maybe this is the evening out

or the “luck” as one may call it since he started the year 1 for 31. I’m sure he hit some nice ones that were out a couple weeks ago.

He scuffled the first 1.5 weeks but he’s hitting very well the last ten games. Considering he’s a 19 year old in Burlington (which IIRC is a tough place to hit), he’s looking good…

Fabio

Really impressive arm, etc…but, he is going to need a few years to iron out his command and develop enough as a pitcher to get ML’s out consistently. Still think he will be a really good #2 type.

Fabio

was dealin through 4, (4 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 5 K) but obviously had some trouble in the 5th. Still, a plus start, that his final line doesn’t reflect.

by doublestix on Apr 24, 2025 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Point is...

He wasn’t getting hit around the whole game. He was presumably dominant through 4, and had one bad inning. Something the final stat line doesn’t show.

by Kerm on Apr 24, 2025 8:45 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

indeed

We have a name for guys who can pitch no more than 4-5 good innings . . .they’re called “relievers”.

If you can’t tell, I’m not a big fan of the recent trend of having prize arms go for 3-5 innings at a time. It makes their numbers look better than they should be (because the guy only has to rely on his best two pitches), it doesn’t prepare them for what they actually need to do to succeed as a major leaguer (conserve stuff through a game, multiple pitches, pitch late into games) . . .

Think about Phil Hughes. We thought he was really polished and ready to be at least a solid major league starter as soon as he came up based on the combination of stuff and numbers . . .when in reality he had 1-1.5 major league ready pitches with good command that he was using to wreck guys in 5 inning stretches.

worth mentioning

Personal sleeper pick Graham Stoneburner from the Yankees system retired TWENTY consecutive batters. He didn’t win, but still.

On the season, through 4 starts, he’s got a 2.16 ERA, 19 hits allowed in 25 innings, 6/30 BB/K ratio, twice as many groundouts as airouts.

He Looks Good

But I thought they might assign him to Tampa. Would like to see him against some better competition before I get too excited…

by Dfarth on Apr 25, 2025 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought he was going to the Sally

He has college experience, but he missed a substantial amount of time with injuries and is consequently a little raw with the secondary stuff. Basically a choice between having him start as a reliever in Tampa or a starter in the Sally . . .but if the Yankees switch him back, he could move fast.

And then… neither of them seem to be able to strike out anybody. For Rhee, this might be less of an issue, because he is a great GB pitcher (though gives up a remarkable number of homers for somebody who rarely gives up fly balls), but still.
