Dynasty League Help - Porcello or Matusz?
I'm in a Diamond Mind dynasty league, and I have the 5th pick in a rookie draft. The two top pitchers that will most likely be available at that time are Matusz and Porcello. Both have a lot to like, and are very young. I've never seen them compared before, most likely because Porcello already has a year in the majors, and that they are very different pitchers.
My question is, who do you think will have the better career?

Porcello is a rookie.
What are the minor limits in your league?
I’d take Matusz BTW.

porcello
better ballpark. much easier division. other than that like matusz better. but i think ballpark and division swing vote towards porcello.

Porcello
His stuff is drastically better, and we know he KNOWS how to pitch. Especially since he’s still not using his stuff in the way he can.

Re:
I personally don’t think Porcello’s stuff is drastically better. Matusz threw harder last year(plus he’s a lefty). I still think Porcello is a bit overrated at this point - as his upside doesn’t look like an ace to me. I think Matusz’s ceiling at this point is higher…JMHO.

Porcello
Was on a pitch count and had to pitch to contact all last year. For a kid at 20 who had to work fast and get hitters out as quickly as possible, it was impressive what he did last year. I cant wait to see what happens when the let him loose in a year or two but for now can we stop with discounting his “stuff” until he is allowed to actually show us his stuff.

Matusz flat out knows how to pitch as well
Kranitz says it all the time

hard to say
I like both, went with Porcello because of the “experience” factor. but he has a high injury risk since he pitched 170 innings last year.
however, if K’s count in your league, go with Matusz.

thankfully i own them both in my league
:)
but if i had to choose, i would go porcello. he was one of the better pitchers in the AL at the age of 20. 20. he couldn’t legally drink yet he outpitched a good portion of the AL. i don’t think with all of the fussing about Ks, people note this enough.

the average age of an mlb player was about 27 last year
he was 20. you talk about age relative to level, he was standard deviations below the average age. that is a sick accomplishment if you really think about it

Porcello
If he was pitching in the minors for most of the season last year instead of facing legit MLB hitters this wouldn’t be a discussion imo. Porcello has better stuff and isn’t pitching in a hitters park nor the AL East.
