Miggy "Sober" Cabrera - Dynasty Trade Value w/poll
I am interested in folks view on "fair value" for Miguel Cabrera in Dynasty League (assume basic 5x5, 16 Mixed Team, no salaries).
Along with Hanley Ramirez, Kemp, Pujols, he would generally rate right up there from an overall value standpoint. Still young enough where his presumably awesome "career years" are ahead of him.
Anecdotally, many athletes that have suffered from addiction (booze, drugs) have counterintuitively not performed better post-rehab. I don't want to play shrink here, but a lot of things change when one cuts out its addicted substance. I remember even Bill James observing this in old Baseball Abstract.
Anyway, I am a "win now" team (won last year). My team is not old. Miggy is on a rebuilding team so I am sure that he is available. Interested in views on "fair value". I am thinking of Jay Bruce and Michael Stanton and I will use that as a poll question. However, I am more interested in examples of player(s) that folks here would consider "fair value" for Cabrera in a deal.
THanks

Yea...
I would try that first. If he says no, add another young high upside pitcher or something. If Miggy will really help your team win a championship, I would give him a little extra if needed, but try to focus on giving up younger players who won’t contribute too much anytime soon if you are in win now mode.

I doubt that works.
Cabrera is very young and just about to enter his prime (25-26 if I’m not mistaken). He’s proven himself over the last 3-4 years to be an elite hitter. Perhaps a prospect laden package with a proven player would help.
As much as I like Bruce, I doubt the package of Bruce and Stanton would be near what he wants. I’d assume he’d like something to help now as well as a couple of potential star prospects for the future.
Good luck with trading for Cabrera, but until I see any downward trend with his bat, I doubt that there will be any need to trade the guy.

pitching
i would find it hard to improve my team hitting wise by trading miggy. now if i could replace him with a younger hopeful (jay bruce) and a pitcher maybe i could justify it.

The pitcher has to be a top 5 pitcher for me to trade Cabrera,
if it’s lincecum, halladay, haren, or sabathia, then I’d be inclined to make a move, but anything less than a top 5 pitcher and bruce, I don’t think I’d consider it…
His bat is where his value lies, and if he doesn’t produce, then it’s not worth it, but he does then it’s a good deal…

If the other dude is rebuilding, he should keep M-Cab
Isn’t the point of rebuilding to get young stars?
But yeah if he is willing to trade Cabrera for Stanton and Bruce…do it. Throw in another prospect if needed.
