Working on the Blue Jays
I have to go to Iowa this weekend so I don't know if I'll get the Blue Jays done before Tuesday. In any event, the preliminary list is after the jump. There is no more room, so if you want to suggest someone to add to the list, you have to suggest someone to cut, too.

Out: Sean Ochinko
In: Kenneth (Kenny) Wilson

hmm
Wilson…very toolsy, was in the book last year….but he can’t hit right now.
Ochinko hit great in the NYP but is older.
I’ll consider wilson but would prefer to keep Ochinko. Anyone else to drop?>
by John Sickels on Dec 18, 2025 3:41 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
well..
I agree Wilson can’t hit, but my thinking was his speed and glove are here to stay and his BB rate wasn’t awful for a 19yo in low-A. That leaves his K-rate (needs a lot of work) and his power, which isn’t a huge concern given his age, level and skill set (more “speedster” than HR hitter). I threw out Ochinko b/c I find when guys are listed early in their careers at C-1b, that means 1b long term and to be a legit 1b prospect you can’t just hit you really have to crush it.
So all that said, I guess one could argue Wilson over Gustavo Pierre as well. Pierre is just so far away, and his K:BB rate was just putrid (45k, 3 bb in 174ab). But that’s really just swapping one high-ceiling little production guy for another.
Don’t think it’s a huge deal if Wilson is left out, just nice to see his ceiling in there.

Wilson
I like Wilson too, he was hampered by injuries this past year…he’s a decent bet to improve. I’d rather see some info on him then Zincola or Hutchinson.
Also Trystan Magnuson had a pretty good year, he was drafted as a reliever with the intention of converting him to a starter, he failed miserably as a starter and was converted back to relief last year with pretty good results.. Doesn’t look like you have room for him though.

zincola
Want to keep Zinicola because he’s a rule 5. Hutchinson had a big bonus and is projectable….
I can see Magnuson…
by John Sickels on Dec 18, 2025 4:53 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Wilson, Magnuson
I would remove Carlos Pina (unless you have awesome scouting reports - he had a low K/9 in the GCL - just over 6. K/BB is barely over 2/1. He’s another worm-killer. I’d like to see him do anything in a full-season league before getting excited.
Magnuson, I think has a better chance of being MLB-useful than Farquharson, who has poor control. I would also consider Chuck Huggins.
To recap:
In: Kenny Wilson, and Trystan Magnuson or Chuck Huggins
Out: Carlos Pina, Danny Farquharson
Finally, while I wouldn’t include him, would be curious to know what you thought of Marcus Brisker.
All the best

agreed
I agree….Magnuson makes more sense than Carlos Pina at this point. Wil drop Pina for Magnuson.
Huggins is also a good candidate. . .have to think about dropping someone for him. Mabye Farquar.

Magnuson
Really surprised to see Magnuson in there, his peripherals were very uninspiring. Huggins’ HR rate scares me for a guy who has yet to hit AA and spent the bulk of last season in the FSL.
I would actually prefer Randy Boone in there to Magnuson. I don’t know if he’ll last as a starter, but in his first two seasons as a pro he’s shown he can throw strikes and generate grounders in pretty solid amounts.

Perhaps dropping Ochinko for Boone?

brisker
Brisker is a lot like Wilson….toolsy, fast, can’t hit, young.
I also kind of like Brian Van Kirk but I don’t think there is room.

marginals
OK, here are guys I am considering dumping and guys I could add
possible additions: Boone, Wilson, Brisker
possible substractions: ochinko, farquar,…..:???? who?
by John Sickels on Dec 18, 2025 5:20 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
see
See how hard this is?
Farquar has command issues but I have positive reports about his stuff and he could hit the majors in 2010.
Huggins…good command.
Boone…also could hit the majors in 2010 under certain conditions.
Wilson/Brisker….very toolsy, people are interested….
by John Sickels on Dec 18, 2025 5:22 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
ok...
OK, some decisions.
Reports on Huggins stuff aren’t too good. He’s droppable
Farquar, Mangusen, and Boone are all Grade C marginal staff types, however all could appear in the majors sometme in 2010.
Brisker and Wilson are grade C raw prospect types a long way away but with high ceilings, if they hit..
I could swap out two of the pitchers for Brisker and Wilson, but which ones?
by John Sickels on Dec 18, 2025 5:32 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Farquhar
I can’t see command like that ever doing more than getting a cup of coffee in the bigs. Does his command/stuff compare to Brandon League’s? If League had less stuff, he’d be gone. If his command was any worse, he’d be gone.
I would prefer seeing Wilson to Brisker (pedigree is higher).
Understandable about Huggins - good numbers, but he is an older guy in lower levels.
I think Magnuson will make the show and could be useful. Can’t say I have much hope for Boone. How different is he to Brandon Magee?

Farquhar
As a SP maybe, but he could make it even with that command as a RP. Carlos Marmol, Mike Gonzalez and Octavio Dotel are 3 examples of RPs with electric stuff, poor command and major league success. I’m not saying he’s a lock by any means, but he has a shot.
by jayjay on Dec 18, 2025 6:44 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Boone
Farquhar, Wilson and Brisker are prospects in my mind. Boone has very little chance of even making it to the show and no chance of being an impact player, while the other three at least have a slight chance at that. .Farquhar from what i have heard with his unique arm angle and plus stuff has closer potential…..just my 2 cents.

Hutchinson
I don’t really know much about him other than him getting overslot money to sign. If you think Egan Smith is a more interesting prospect, I guess he can prove himself first.

AJ Jiminez
It seems like the organization thinks highly of him. He had to be one of the younger catchers in the AFL this past year, not sure if the jays just had no other catcher to send or not. But he has some intrigue.
by JJACK on Dec 18, 2025 6:17 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
The Jays sent Jiminez because Arencibia and Jeroloman were injured. Jiminez has good defensive skills and does well with pitchers for a teenager, so he got the nod. Allegedly.

Robert Ray
had 24 IP in the show last season so he would still be a prospect i think. ok last post, im done
by JJACK on Dec 18, 2025 6:20 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I think he spent too many days "officially" on an MLB roster
He went on the MLB DL last season after the 24 IP, not the minor league DL, so he accumulated service time.

Drop Farquhar?
Are you guys nuts?
Control need a ton of work, but he has one of the best arms in this system. He was drafted just a year ago and has already dominated through several levels. He is nearly unhittable when he is on, Christ the guy gave up only one more hit than he did walks in AA and his WHIP was still 1.34. He also posted a 1.41 GB/FB ratio.

Late to the party but
Even if the list is closed, I want to mention some names for the future…either the book or the discussion thread.
Scott Campbell - great plate control in 2008, hurt in 2009.
Adam Loewen - High profile, mixed results, in AFL
Robert Ray - made it to the show
Jose Vargas and Deviy Estrada - two guys in the DSL who had great ratios
Brian Jeroloman - are we writing him off?
Balbino Fuenmayor - horrible ratios and I wouldn’t list him but maybe worth at least a mention
Kyle Ginley - probably not enough innings in 2009 to give you a basis for comment.
Guys listed I’m not impressed by include:
Wilson and Brisker - like the tools, would love to see SOME hitting (can include Eric Eiland in this group too)
Magnuson - seems to be a very high floor low ceiling guy…not too uncommon.
I’d do Campbell, Loewen and Ray over those three (in fact, if healthy Ray probably is a slightly better version of Magnuson in that he can start and has better ratios and is closer)
by WillRain1 on Dec 19, 2025 1:44 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Jeroloman
Are we giving up on him?…….I sure as heck hope so, he has never shown really any hitting ability other than being able to take a walk. If anyone saw any upside whatsoever he would have probably been selected in the rule V draft. You’d love to see hitting with WIlson and Brisker, well its much more reasonable to expect a hitting improvement with those two than the college pick Jeroloman who has yet to show any.
Campbell is a good bounce back candidate. As a 1B Loewen is not really at all interesting. Ginley could bounce back and regain some prospect status.
Just my 2 cents

change
Ok, i’m making one last change, replacing Brisker (who is just too raw right now) with Robert Ray given that he could contribute signficantly in the majors in ’10.

johnny anderson, lhp
could break out next season. good body for a pitcher, more like 220 than the 200 he is listed at on milb.com. can touch 94 from the left side and didn’t do too badly for his first pro season as a starter. good ARL as well, as he just turned 21 and will be in AA new hampshire this coming season.

Seriously?
How do you figure? He didn’t do very well in Lansing - 99 IP, 130 Hits, 76K. His ERA was 4.52, and his RA was 5.78 - why would the Jays have him skip a level?
by ofsticksandbats on Dec 20, 2025 9:50 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I don't know how he gets to AA, unless he means by year's end
but I seem to recall some member of the Jays’ crew being high on him and mentioning him as one to watch next year.
