That's a lot of B's

for a system that isnt thought well of…

by alskor on Dec 19, 2025 9:13 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Not bad but I think you're a little high in a few of these guys.....

especially Brandon Allen - not a B, a C+ probably along with Getz, Richard and Shelby. Viciedo will probably rank higher a year from now but there isn’t much to go on right now.

by NLaloosh on Dec 19, 2025 9:46 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Why Allen?

Agree with Shelby, Getz, and Viciedo, but why the 22 year old Brandon Allen?

6’2’’ 235 lbs and he isn’t a defensive liability.

He has above average power with a great batting eye (11% BB). His strike-out percentage is acceptable (22.5 K%). It’s actually less than several of the top rated power hitters on the Community List (Stanton, Carter, Villalona).

by gunkdog on Dec 20, 2025 12:28 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i agree

allen is a solid B and extremely under-rated by many - he’s a top 10 1B prospect and made a ton of strides last season

i think john will have viciedo much lower - he doesn’t usually grade guys with no experience very high

by Wheelhouse on Dec 20, 2025 5:05 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

the problem is

he IS a defensive liability. He has good power and eye, but he might be the team’s(or some other team’s) DH.

My Top 12

1) Aaron Poreda, B+, I’ve been a big Poreda fan since he was drafted. I think this guy has been vastly under-rated. I like that he doesn’t give up HRs.
2) Gordon Beckham, B, The less talked about but more talented Beckham. Makes good contact, I’m just worrid about the lack of power thus far.
3) Jordan Danks, B-, You don’t hear as much about him as you should. He is a ways away from the bigs, but he has mad sleeper talent. Similar stats to Gordon Beckham, also still needs to show some power.
4) Josh Fields, B-, Probably no longer a prospect at this point. So far he’s been disappointing in the show. Some of it might have had to do with being a bit over-rated. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt based on his 2007 stats.
5) Alexei Ramirez, B-, Also should probably be taken off my prospect list. Had a great season last year. Waiting to see what he does next year.
6) Jack Egbert, C+, groundball pitcher, throws strikes…unfortunately had trouble with the longball last season.
7) John Ely, C+, Same as above.
8) John Shelby, C, Hits near .300, has potential, needs to show what he can do at the next level.
9) Clayton Richard, C, great groundball pitcher, doesn’t give up HRs…but thus far hasn’t proved he can strike anyone out.
10) Nevin Griffith, C, Same type of skills as Richard except waaay earlier in his career.
11) Brent Morel, C, Seemed to improve a little offensively after moving up to Class A, especially showed a little power.
12) Fernando Hernandez, C, Assuming last year was just a down year. I think he’ll get back on track in 2009.

by Aslan on Dec 20, 2025 2:15 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

yeah

Fields and Alexei are not prospects anymore.
no Allen or Dayan or Flowers are all pretty big snubs on are list, I can’t see a way that they’re not all in the top 6 of the system and would think most have them in the top 5

by foolintherain on Dec 20, 2025 2:40 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Danks

I’d say his horrific strikeout rates in the MWL and the AFL are more troublesome than his lack of power.

by jibs on Dec 20, 2025 8:52 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Looks real high ratings for one of the worst systems

Looking at the system plus performance I would go with:

1Gordan Beckham (B+)
2 Dayan Viciedo (B)
3 Aaron Poreda (B)
4 Tyler Flowers (B-)
5 Clayton Richard (C+)
6 Jordan Danks (C+)
7 Brent Lillibridge (C+)
8 Brandon Allen ©
9 Chris Getz ©
10 John Shelby ©

Others possible C/C+ range Ely,Marquez,Morel,Griffith,Hernandez,Gilmore,Escobar,Torres & speedster Gerst

Allen a C?!

I mean, I’m not his biggest fan, and could see a C+, but there’s no way on earth he’s a C. I’d say the same for Getz.

I won’t even acknowledge the fact Lillibridge is ahead of both of them.

by Craig Grebeck on Dec 20, 2025 9:48 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Getz should be at least C+

ready for the majors and potential average 2B

wondering, John, about Viciedo

I wonder iif you’ve gotten much information on Viciedo beyond the handful of video clips on YouTube. Projecting him may be the most interesting challenge of the Sox farmhands. Also, do you think Flowers will stick at catcher?

+1

Silverio is a guy I’m wondering about. Brutal last year after being puffed up in BA’s book, but still just 17.

International guys

Silverio, nope. Very young but the initial talent evaluation appears to be way off. Perhaps intentionally.

Martinez still looks solid to me. Very young still and talented, once he’s healthy we’ll know more. But I can’t think of a reason why he shouldn’t recover.

"Perhaps intentionally"?

Just curious if you could clarify that point a little bit.

Skimming scandal

It’s likely a reference to the bonus skimming scandal that lead the White Sox to let go their director of Latin American scouting.

John Shelby

Totally underrated. He could be a great offensive player.
But anyone else have an opinion of him?

A noob or n00b is someone that lacks intellegance or common sense, most people think that noob is a word used only in the online gaming world, but in reality it is becoming an ever popular word with teenage society.

a noob could be simply a level 100 running round shouting ‘’WTF DO I GO!?’’ or someone calling someone else a noob and then getting hit with a brick, anyone can call anyone a noob, but normally they are noobs themselves

2b or not 2b

Who is going to wind up winning the battle for 2b with Alexei moving over to SS?

Chris Getz?

Jayson Nix?

Wilson Betemit (if Fields claims 3b <-not likely due to the Ks)

Any knowledgeable Chisox fans want to take an educated guess since I’m not that familiar with Getz and Nix, other than they seem kind of weak options.

by The Colonel on Dec 19, 2025 11:25 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Getz is a good bet to provide slightly less than the avg. 2B

interesting....

as of now Getz has the inside shot but Betemit is a possibility due to his versqtility and experience.Nix bombed in Colorado & looks more of AAA insurance……..wouldnt be surprised however if Lillibridge gets a chance to win it in Spring…..unless of course they sign someone in FA

The system has improved...

I think a lot of replies on here are basing their opinions off the past. I also think this idea of “White Sox having poor prospects” has become a stereotype in it’s own.

First of all, last season they did have a terrible system IMO. They drafted Beckham and Danks. Beckham is a B rating in my eyes at the bare minimum. I view him as a B+/A- if that power develops early in 2009. Seeing him as a power hitting 2nd baseman of the future for them, in the mold of a Dan Uggla with better defense and athletic ability warrants that kind of grade.

Danks is a great athlete but his splits concern me. I would go as high as a B- max right now but I think he is a C+.

I think the additions of Flowers (B), Lilliibridge (B-/C+ going to give him one more shot), Viciedo (B+ on reputation, but I wouldn’t rate him that high without proof. Probably a C+), among others and the emergence of Allen (B, I think he is better than Carter who has earned similar nods), even Richard (C+, maybe a B- but not for a career 5 starter) make this system a much better one than is lead to believe.

I think Getz can be a serviceable option in majors. John Shelby I agree with most is underrated, much like Allen.

And what I was getting at before when I said this system has become an overlooked or stereotype of sorts is because they have talent. When they are with the White Sox, it is overlooked in my opinion and sometimes overrated with others (Jeremy Reed comes to mind).

But the second those guys leave the organization, they are immediately better prospects? Guys like Cunningham, Carter, Gonzalez, Cortes, etc. Some of them happen to improve, but the point remains that they constantly are overlooked in this organization (with good reason sometimes too).

They are seemingly the opposite of their crosstown counterpart, where I always hear about these tremendous Cubs Prospects and never see the rhyme or reason to it.

Still a thin system but guys Poreda, Beckham, Viciedo, Flowers, and Allen improve the upper range. They are missing that one sure fire superstar but it appears they essentially graduated that kind of talent (Quentin and Alexi Ramirez). Kenny Williams is doing a good job of improving this system with the intentions of dealing it all away again at the deadline. He just needed more bullets and he has them.

Anyways, just my two cents on the White Sox.

by nickswagger31 on Dec 20, 2025 5:31 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Agree with much of this

With the addition of Flowers, Beckham, Danks and Viciedo and the emergence of Allen and Poreda in the last year the White Sox are no longer a “bad” system. More like average. I think all of those guys except Danks deserve B or above grades. I’d probably put Beckham at B+ and Flowers, Viciedo, Allen and Poreda at B. Danks I’d give B- (great tools, high K rate).

WRT to recently drafted players Yonder Alonso got a B+ and Smoak got an A-. I think Beckham should get a B+ as a middle infielder who dominated in the AFL. Getz, Richard and Shelby I give C+.

larrys fortune cookie: you will learn much and have the advantage of not reading my pompous responses.

More talent then people think ...

1.Gordan Beckham - legit infielder delivering power in the Cell either from SS or 2B
2. Dayan Viciedo - control his weight and he will likely be the next Carlos Lee at worst
3. Aaron Poreda - true burner may be a solid # 3 SP but otherwise 2nd solid lefty in pen
4. Tyler Flowers - DH of the future after Thome retires
5. Jordan Danks - good athlete, late bloomer whose solid D will move him fast
6. Chris Getz - will hit and hustle his way onto 2009 roster
7. Clayton Richard - solid back of rotation or middle relief southpaw
8. Brandon Allen - if he pans out at 1B may move Viciedo to LF given 3B talent in system
9. Cole Armstrong - looks like Catcher of future with Flowers DHing
10. Jon Gilmore - young solid D at 3B with hints of power who came over from Atlanta
11. Jhonny Nunez - turned it around as RP; Kenny found another power arm
12. Jon Link - 35 saves in AA; ground ball producing machine made for the Cell
13. C.J Retherford - 3B with good eye, power, speed: 295, 16 homers, 11 stolen bases
14. Brent Lillibridge -over hyped but should be a fine utility infielder
15. Dan Hudson - 3.36 ERA and led the Pioneer League with 90 strikeouts in 69.2 IP
16. Dexter Carter - lead the Pioneer League with a 2.23 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 68.2 IP
17. Levi Maxwell - 2007 pick went 15-5 at Kannapolis with 105 strikeouts
18. Tyler Kuhn - SS had .375 average and drove in 46 runs at Great Falls
19. John Shelby - 98 strikeouts vs. 22 walks and lack of “D” hurt otherwise decent stats
20.. Jordan Kendall - young OF hit .319 and had 20 SB at Bristol but caught 15 times

2. Dayan Viciedo – control his weight and he will likely be the next Carlos Lee at worst

This is where you lost everyone, even though the rest of your post is pretty sensible.

Im not sure there is more talent than people think, but this place looked barren a year ago, and its a hell of a long way from that. Kenny Williams never ceases to amaze me… consistently doing the opposite of what I think he should…

by alskor on Dec 20, 2025 10:29 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Carlos May came up in the White Sox organization as a 3B and was moved to LF where he has proven to be a solid power source/decent hitter.

Viciedo may see the same thing happen in an organization that Fields and Betemit currently at 3B with Gilmore, Retherford, 2008 pick Morel all in the pipe line - and Dye liklely gone this season or next. Move Q to RF, Viciedo in LF and Danks providing D in CF …

But like M. Cabrera, Viciedo will have to watch his weight - an issue he already publically acknowledged.
