Better prospect package?
Have 2 offers on the table... Having a hard time deciding which one Id rather have
Not necessarily rebuilding, just clearing some cap space and trading a solid vet (Dan Haren) and looking to build my fairly thin farm up. Dont really have an specific positional needs as my team should contend and be in the top 7-8 teams in a 20 team league.
Package 1:
P Carlos Martinez
OF Oscar Taveras
P Lance Lynn
OF Charlie Tilson
Package 2:
OF Wil Myers
P John Lamb
P Kelvin Herrera
C Cam Gallagher
Leaning towards package 1, as it seems to be the superior all around package. However, Im not sure I can pass on getting someone like Wil Myers. Someone fairly close to the majors with tremendous upside. But if people think Tevaras could be just as good as Myers, then I would go with package 1. Not hell bent on getting close to major league ready guys, but its just hard to pass on someone so close to the majors who should be able to jump right in and be a safe bet to contribute.
Thanks in advance for any advice. I know these types of threads get a little annoying.

I’d take package #1, Taveras could be close to Myers and Martinez should be a stud.

Taveras could be close to Myers
honestly, no he couldn’t. scouts like Taveras’ make up, but most hate the fact that he had to swing so hard (routinely swinging out of his batting helmet) in low-A. What happens when he has to face Major League level pitching?
People are down on Myers entirely too much. He was hurt last year and could, this year, reestablish himself as a top-10, if not top-5, prospect in baseball.
Taveras probably won’t ever be able to get to that level.
Thus, for me, Package 2 is better.

About as even as you can get
I think I would go with the second package, if only because it has less of its value tied up in pitching, which tends to be more volatile.

I'd go after Package 2
Mainly because I’m far more confident taking a guy like Wil Myers as a centerpiece than I am a risky guy like Carlos Martinez. I also think that John Lamb is a pretty valuable fantasy asset, as does Herrera, maybe just as much as the Lynn/Taveras duo.

thanks for the help
yeah I have bounced back and forth on this a few times. and I think this would be my only chance to get Myers in a trade, as he originally wasnt looking to trade him but has stepped up to it. and I’m a huge Myers fan.
would love to hear some more insight. seems the census is package 1 is a bit better all around but package 2 is a safer package and may be just as good as well if lamb can bounce back. so package 2 may be better for me

Let me see
This is so even that I have to break it down:
Martinez vs. Lamb - I take Martinez but he is a High risk-High reward right now. I’ve seen people say that he could go to the bullpen because of his delivery. From the videos I’ve seen thats the impression I got but I also see that some of does things are correctable. On the other hand Lamb is coming off of TJ so you have to factor in his injury risk. I go Martinez here I think at worst he is dominant closer.
Taveras Vs. Myers - On one hand you have Myers who looked great in Arizona rebounding from a tough season. He has the hand-eye-coordination to hit for avg and displays good plate discipline. He had a tough year but he was young for the level and was battling injuries so you can kind of have to give him a mulligan. On the other hand you have Taveras who has extreme bat-to-ball skills and might contend for batting titles. I listen to Kevin Goldstein’s podcast and he mentioned something that I found interesting. He said that Taveras swings the bat with a lot of force but still has the ability to control it something you don’t see everyday. I take Myers because trust his tools to translate more but if you want to dream Taveras may be your guy.
Lynn vs Herrera - Lynn profiles as either back of the rotation workhorse or closer. This season he’ll probably be a set-up man but with Carpenter maybe injured he may start the season in the rotation. Herrera on the other hand is a hard-thrower with the upside to close some day. He was a starter in the lower minors but pitched exclusively out of the bullpen in 2011 and I haven’t seen anywhere that they plan to start him in the future. I take Lynn because he has the upside that he could be a starter but I also see him as someone who may be a future closer.
Tilson vs. Gallagher - I don’t know much of each guy as they were 2011 draftees so we don’t have much data nor pro scouting on them. I’d take Tilson because he is an OF and is a much more safe bet than a HS catcher. Catching is a premium but I don’t trust HS catchers at least until they perform unless they are great hitters. Advantage Tilson.
So with this exercise I take package #1. Don’t blame me when Myers becomes a monster, Lamb becomes a #2 starter, Herrera a dominant closer and Gallagher a serviceable catcher with power.
Hahahaha just joking I think package #1 is a bit better.

#2 package
Myers is the best player by a mile IMHO and I have faith in Lamb.
