Schedule and Suggestion Thread

Here are things that are on the agenda, although the exact schedule hasn't been determined yet.

**My own take on some intriguing players for the 2012 draft
**My take on some intriguing young players who are no longer rookies. Everyone keeps asking for this, so I'll do it.
**Prospect Notes most days
**Nolan Arenado vs. Mike Olt Prospect Smackdown
**Probably an AQA next week
**I'm working on some interviews with front office people
**Matt and Ray will be here with more 2012 draft and fantasy contributions

What other suggestions do you have?

More college players...

More directed at Matt, I suppose - but I’m really interested in college players who aren’t as well known (e.g. Pierce Johnson, SP, Mo. State) but could come charging up the charts to be drafted in the first 100 picks in June. Think along the lines of Chris Beck this time a year ago. Much thanks!

How serious is a UCL strain?

10-25-2011. Theo Epstein joins the Cubs. Now, the fun begins.

Michael Jordan prospect retro...

I think it would be very interesting, thank you.

Potential Replacements?

How about a story about potential replacements for MLB players that have departed? 1B in St. Louis, SS in NY, 1B in Milwaukee. I’m sure there are others, too.

Just a thought. (Primarily because I’d like to read more about STL’s Matt Adams…)

Just to currently tap into the what the future holds for some bottom feeders.

John, you're doing the Olt v. Arenado smack down...

You should look at whole the group of top MiLB 3B (Cuthbert, Gyorko, Middlebrooks, etc.)…

Brandon Wood

You’ll probably laugh at first (I did) but think about it. Rockies scooped him up and began working on a new swing for him all offseason. He’s lighting it up in ST and even though he’s done that before it’s something that definitely bears watching as he’s still just 27. Weirder things have happened (Bautista, Zobrist, Morse, etc.) Would love to know more about his background and how perception of him has changed over years and how you view him now John.

ugh, brandon wood

go long with extenze...i do

meh

he changed his swing last year too, it’s going to take something more along the lines of a miracle at this point

by hybrid on Mar 14, 2026 6:38 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm kind of burnt out on Wood

Every year people ask for a piece but not much has really changed. He was a k machine who couldn’t adjust to better pitching. I would rather read some pieces on some newer guys and not the same old busts (Wood, Marte, Guzman).

Brandon Wood Fun Fact

Carlos Zambrano has more career HR’s than Brandon Wood and he has done it in fewer at-bats.

by James Westfall on Mar 14, 2026 12:44 PM EDT up reply actions

One thing to note

Of the late bloomers you mentioned, (Zobrist, JB, Morse), all had either much better K or BB rates (or both) than Wood, or at least maintained those rates better the higher they went in the minors. I don’t think that’s quite a coincidence…had Wood maintained his BB% of around 10% from his early years, we probably wouldn’t be having this discussion.

by dbreer23 on Mar 14, 2026 12:57 PM EDT up reply actions

the only things Wood has going for him in my opinion

is that he is in an ideal hitter’s environment and he has a strong supporting cast headlined by Tulo and no intense internal competition (Blake is falling apart and Arenado needs a full year at AAA). that said if he cant figure it out in Colorado he is completely done.

Excited for the non-rookies piece

I suggested this last time: Lucas Duda vs. Allen Craig…seems like a good/fun match up.

In search of the next 'super reliever'

Wondering if there’s any prospects that could fit into this mold that 1.) has a rubber arm and 2.) a starter’s repertoire. Possibly someone who throws a ridiculous amount of side sessions and long tossing and could throw 2-3 innings in multiple consecutive outings. I’m just curious if there’s anyone who could be the next Goose Gossage and throw 150 innings in relief.

Would you be willing to do a brief helium column? Guys who already received high grades from you who could or should be next year’s A grades or top 10.

Along the busted-prospect-retro line

(not that Jordan really qualifies, but Brandon Wood certainly does) I’d be interested in a prospect retro on Jeff Clement, just for the insight on why he flamed out so badly.
