About once a year we run a variation on this question and it always generates some good discussion. Let's do it again.
Let's say you are the 2016 Washington Nationals. It is Game Seven of the 2016 World Series. You are playing the Texas Rangers, in Texas.
To start the game, you must choose one player from the minor leagues under the following conditions:
A) It cannot be any pitcher with major league experience.
B) It cannot be someone in the Nationals farm system.
C) It cannot be anyone from Japan or anyone who does not have minor league experience in the United States,
D) It cannot be anyone with experience in Double-A or Triple-A.
E) They have to pitch at least five innings no matter what. If they give up 10 runs, too bad for you.
F) They won't get hurt so you don't have to worry about their long-term outlook.
In other words, pick a guy from A-ball or the short-season leagues to start Game Seven for you. You have 29 teams to pick from. Who is your guy?
