Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Thursday, July 14th edition of Minor League Ball Gameday. The player spreadsheets are temporarily unavailable, but of course our daily minor league discussion will continue as usual. Here are some additional newsbits and articles worthy of your attention.
***Big game last night for Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Alex Verdugo, going three-for-four with a double and two RBI for Double-A Tulsa. This brings his season line up to .299/.359/.446 with 26 walks and 44 strikeouts in 298 at-bats. He's hit .341 in his last 10 games.
***Boston Red Sox prospect Luis Alexander Basabe (not to be confused with his brother Luis Alejandro Basabe, traded to the Diamondbacks last week) went four-for-four with a homer and three runs scored last night for the Greenville Drive in the Low-A South Atlantic League.
***Drafted in the second round last June from high school in Norcross, Georgia, Los Angeles Angels outfield prospect Jahmai Jones is hitting .324/.390/.448 in his first 105 at-bats for Orem in the Pioneer League.
***At Fangraphs, Eric Longenhagen scouts Cleveland Indians prospects 2,700 miles apart. He's got a good look at Justus Sheffield and Clint Frazier and Bobby Bradley among others.
***Clint Frazier, Raimel Tapia, Chance Sisco, and Dylan Cozens represented the Double-A Eastern League in the 2016 MLB Futures Game and give some brief comments on their experiences.
***John LaRue at the Hardball Times looks at the evolution of MLB uniforms colors since 1962.
I can't get over the horrible All-Star uniforms, and I actually LIKE the Padres brown and yellow from the 70s. And the Astros colors, too. I grew up in the 70s and 80s and the throwback uniforms to those eras are fun, but I think this homage misfired. What say you?
