Suggestion Thread
OK, ladies and gentlemen. Draft season is finally behind us, so I need some suggestions for stuff you would like to see. I'll start doing Top 20 prospect list updates sometime in July, and we will do Prospect of the Day and Minor League Notes on a daily basis, but I want to mix in some features too before the Top 20 updates start. Make some suggestions.
I'll try to do an AQA sometime soon but it would probably have to be on a weekend. I have some interview possibilities. Suggest subjects for Career Profiles or Not a Rookies, and any other feature-type deal you would like to see.

Complex Leagues
With the Arizona and Gulf Coast leagues opening today, maybe a quick hits piece on some guys to watch in each?
by realitypolice on Jun 20, 2025 9:28 PM EDT reply actions
It would be great if you could separate the wheat from the chaff in the short season leagues....
There can be so many great performances from so many anonymous guys, it would be great to get an idea of which young guys are actually cementing some prospect status.

Top First Basemen Remaining in the Minor Leagues
The prospect rankings at this position have been absolutely decimated with the recent MLB promotions of Smoak, Belt, Hosmer, Rizzo, Freeman and Trumbo.
Is Goldschmidt now the #1 first baseman in the Minors? Alonso? Where does Jonathan Singleton rank? Is Matt Adams a top 10 first base prospect right now? Chris Marrero?

not that many great ones left
Goldy of course is #1, Alonso is up there, but he might not even be Top 50

I agree, Mike McDade is a very exciting 1st Basemen for New Hampshire, lots of power and good defense.

A couple of things
I second the idea of players to watch in Rk/SS leagues, as players quickly become forgotten when they haven’t played…
Also, I’ve asked for this a couple of times, but how about a profile on 4th OFs, or what makes a 4th OF, or guys who had the 4th OF profile and have succeeded. I mentioned Cowgill and Lough specifically before the season started. Both have had solid years. Are they still 4th OFs?

Other suggestions would be to cover the IFA (as already suggested), top catching prospect outside of Bryce Harper, as that seems to be an area of weakness across the board if I’m not mistaken, maybe shine a little light on how teams evaluate IFA’s, particularly when dealing with players that play multiple positions and pitch (Profar comes to mind)

Montero isn’t even #1. That honor goes to Mesoraco. Meso, D’Arnaud, G. Sanchez are 3 guys off the top of my head who are better than him. Montero is as overrated as they come.

Not a Rookie: Starlin Castro
Why? I believe the answer would be “because he’s awesome.”
Maybe a piece on rookie of the year candidates (and their futures)…a performance update on the legit college prospects in the CWS tourney (I saw Whinston and Garvin pitched really well, as did the UNC LH)…Not a rookie/Smackdown hybrid Justin Upton vs. Heyward….career profile on the soon to be forever underrated Carlos Beltran….something on how Brett Jackson is going to be a top tier CFer because it turns out he’s got alot of skills as a hitter…also on how underrated he is…guys with <2 years in the minors who really stand out as future top prospects (The Next Next Wave)…Off topic: Best Comedian Alive…A “wtf is up with Matzek” piece…Not a rookie: Matt Garza….An update on Perez vs. Banuelos….something about how Matt Harvey will be the NL version of Verlander…oh and a not a rookie on Verlander, possibly. One of these would be fine too.

MiLB League Profiles
I’d still LOVE to read your thoughts on all or most of the respective MiLB leagues, I posted this in the last suggestions thread and it got 3 agreements from other readers so I think others would find this useful also, doesn’t have to be incredibly in depth, but even 3 lists, 1 for hitters leagues, 1 for neutral leagues, and 1 for pitchers leagues would be a big help ( i also understand some leagues are neutral but have hitters parks in them so i don’t know if that can be distinguished within the peice or series but i am sure a lot of us get confused and misconstrue numbers based on us not understanding what type of league or ballpark some prospects are playing in)

All Trout, All Day
Well, not quite. As a big Angels fan I’m obviously anticipating the arrival of Mike Trout. I’d love to see an article that asks the question: When is the right time to bring up a top prospect? Particularly very young ones, like Trout?
The history of 19-year olds succeeding in the big leagues isn’t all that spectacular, but many that get some at-bats in their age-19 season do very well in their age-20 season, so I’m thinking that at least 100 PA for Trout this year would be a good thing. Or maybe more? What do you think?
by Angelsjunky7 on Jun 21, 2025 10:08 AM EDT reply actions
I really really hope they bring up Trout next year to replace Bourjos
and make Bourjos trade bait or 4th OF. Bourjos just isnt going to hit enough, and Trouts defense is almost as good.

I disagree...sort of
I hope they bring Trout up in September, give him 100 PA, then make him the regular LFer next year next to Bourjos. Then I hope they try to trade one or more of Wells, Hunter, and Abreu…Wells isn’t going to happen (unless it is for an equal or worse contract like Zito or Werth), but Hunter could happen, or maybe Abreu. If they can’t ship one of those guys they can always make Bourjos the 4th outfielder for 2012 and rotate him with Wells and Hunter, as well as being a late inning defensive replacement.
But Bourjos is worth keeping at CF if he can continue hitting around a .700 OPS…his defense is just that good. But I think he could end up hitting .290 with an OPS close to .800, if everything goes right. He deserves more time.
That said, if someone offered something interesting for Bourjos, I wouldn’t be crushed to see him go.

A clever option
The Angels could also try to fold Wells into a Weaver trade, something like:
Weaver and Wells to the Yankees for Brett Gardner, Jesus Montero, Betances, and Banuelos
The trade is really Weaver for that haul of young players, but the Yankees are sweetening it up by taking Wells off the Angels’ hands.
I don’t think Reagins is crafty enough to pull something like this off, however.
by Angelsjunky7 on Jun 21, 2025 2:56 PM EDT up reply actions
The Yankees wouldn’t give up Montero + Betances + Banuelos for Cliff Lee… why would they for Jeff Weaver?

Career profile: Darryl Strawberry
This former #1 overall pick was one of the most hyped prospects ever. “The black Ted Williams.” I’d like to read about how he he graded as a pre-draft prospect, as a prospect in the Mets system, and how his career progressed. Obviously drug use will part of his decline. I’m curious to know if scouts believed that he still had plus tools as he declined.

John, given that he announced his retirement earlier today, how about a Prospect Retro on Chad Cordero? It was a briefer career, but the highs were certainly highs, and ISTR that he always seemed to over-achieve compared to the scouting reports.

Your opinion on teams banning pitches would be interesting
Seeing that the Jays have just locked up Drabek’s cutter. Do pitchers benefit from being forced to use other pitches, or does losing their best pitch for a period lead to loss of confidence and other negatives?
