Feast or famine kind of guy?

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.

by Savoy on Apr 23, 2025 2:29 PM EDT reply actions

why do that?

hopefully it will be ignored.

by auclairkeithbc on Apr 23, 2025 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions

So sorry

Thought it would be taken as the joke it was meant to be.

didn't "sign" with anyone

Pirates picked him up on waivers

ok

thanks, he dosent look that bad. Id say its a good move by pittsburg.

I’m kind of optimistic. If you squint you can sort of see the possibility of a Dan Uggla type career.

200 AB
45 H
12 2B
1 3B
8 HR
22 BB
60 K

.225/.301/.415

by TheClaymore on Apr 23, 2025 2:48 PM EDT reply actions

My guess

350 ABs
82 Hits
4 2B
0 3B
8 HR
12 BB
95 K

.234/.249/.311 (A few SF’s will bring the OBP done a little)

He’ll start slow, have a “hot streak” in the middle, then fade away at the end. Enough to give Pirate fans some hope, but enough for even the moderately cynical ones to compare him to Chad Hermansen.

by theatlfan on Apr 23, 2025 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed

This is about right.

by asyouwish33 on Apr 23, 2025 5:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn't want them to pick him up

but now that he’s a buc I’ll make an optimistic fanboy prediction:

400 PA
95 hits
13 doubles
1 triple
13 home runs
30 walks (7.5%)
102 Ks (25.5%)
3 HBP

.258/.320/.406

This works out to a BABIP of .358, thus assumes he will cut down his K rate, up his BB rate, and get a bit lucky.

Redeemed.

Ab’s 348
hits 81
2b 12
3b 2
HR 16
walks 13

by ribman on Apr 23, 2025 5:59 PM EDT reply actions

oops forgot 2nd part

K’s 86
BA .233
OB .260
slg .417

by ribman on Apr 23, 2025 6:03 PM EDT reply actions

best case scenario: Mark Reynolds

worst case: independent ball in three years. I guess if he plays, Brandon will split time at Ss/1b

275 AB
55 hits
8 doubles
1 triple
10 HR
9 BB
100 SO
Batting Average:.200
OBP: .225
SLG: .341

his line will be: .200/.225/.341

I am trying to measure him close to his career average…

by feslenraster on Apr 23, 2025 7:20 PM EDT reply actions

Better than LA, but still mediocre

275 AB
70 Hits
10 Doubles
1 Triple
12 Homers
12 Walks
88 Strikeouts
.255/.286/.429

by cgouds77 on Apr 23, 2025 8:56 PM EDT reply actions

close to career numbers, and they leave him on the bench most of the time

I assume that we’re projecting with Pirates and/or for the rest of the season:

AB: 152
Hits: 29
Doubles: 2
Triples: 0
HR: 1
Walks: 3
SO: 27
BA: .191
OBP: .206
SLG: .224

he seems like a "fit" for the Braves

RH bat who can play SS and 3B. Interesting that he was SOOOOOO highly thought of and then just sort of sucked. AAAA player? Still think there’s a tad bit of time to turn it around, but Pittsburg is NOT gonna be taking ABs away from Walker and Alvarez for Wood. Perhaps they’ll groom him for LF and hope he’s gonna rebound like Gordon?

by apoxonbothyourhouses on Apr 24, 2025 2:41 AM EDT reply actions

you are correct he isn't going to be taking ABs away from Alverez or Walker

but he will be taking ABs from Ronnie Cedeno

Players who should be in the Hall of Fame: Pat TIllman, Dwight White, Donnie Shell, L.C. Greenwood, Ray Guy, Steve Tasker, Jack Butler, Greg Llyod, Andy Russel, Cris Carter, Kevin Greene, Curtis Martin, Willie Roaf, Andre Reed and Jerry Kramer

well he is a SS,

And right now they have Cedeno who to me is just a fill in unitil they find someone good and young. Even if wood dosent become great if he can do ok at the plate a SS 2B 3B combo of Alvarez wood and walker sounds pretty good. Almost to good to be true for the bucs.

by Jt Malley on Apr 24, 2025 3:11 AM EDT reply actions

ummmm
SS 2B 3B combo of Alvarez wood and walker sounds pretty good.

that sounds like last place to me. You’re also forgetting Rendon (who the Pirates need to take more than they need sunlight).

My 2 Cents

At-bats: 350
Hits: 87
Doubles: 18
Triples: 2
Homers: 12
Walks: 30
Strikeouts: 90
Batting average:249
OBP: 312

249/312/414 with slightly below avg defense at ss. Starts off ok, gets hot, cools off into a slump, rights the ship towards September.

I’m admittedly bullish, but it’s because I think Wood will flourish once he’s out of LAA. Long term, I see his realistic upside as something along the lines of Brandon Inge, though I’ll add the caveat that he may only reach that performance for a brief period (ex. 1 good year.)

by GuyinNY on Apr 24, 2025 1:04 PM EDT reply actions

...

To expand from yesterday: “bullish” on a projected 726 OPS from a subpar defensive shortstop. I suppose what I meant by that was “I’m bullish on Wood proving that he belongs in the majors”, and I’m bullish on Wood having some 275/340 season with 25HR and 30-35 2B down the line (figure by 2015ish.)

by GuyinNY on Apr 25, 2025 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions

At-bats 307
Hits 72
Doubles 15
Triples 2
Homers 9
Walks 21
Strikeouts 87
Batting average .235
OBP .286
SLG .384

A guy who puts up these numbers could always turn into a guy who puts up a .330/.421/.609 line as a 28 year old
