Thoughts on the 2011 Draft

Been waiting a long time for this one!

I get the impression this draft is extremely, extremely deep - especially for right-handed college pitchers.

Among hitters… it seems like there are some great outfielders and catchers available, but it’s a relatively weak draft for infielders. Or at least - most scouts seem to agree on the top outfield and catcher prospects available - but after Francisco Lindor, there is great variety among infielder rankings. And Preston Tucker seems like the only 1B getting any early-round consideration whatsoever.

Signability seems to be less of an issue this year than most years - because so many of the top prospects are from college.

Obviously Rendon is the clear-cut choice for #1 overall, but he’s not as much of a no-brainer pick like Strasburg and Harper were. You could argue for one of the college RHP’s (or even Bubba Starling??) over Rendon.

Those are my perceptions (or misconceptions, perhaps.) I’m eagerly looking forward to hearing John’s thoughts and the commenters’ reactions.
