Community Mock Draft: Scouting Director Assignments
Use this thread to volunteer for scouting director assignments. Please state your qualifications and level of interest, so that if two people put in for the same team at the same time i have something to make a decision by. This is first-come, first-serve generally speaking.
Remember, you MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE MOCK DRAFT at NOON CENTRAL TIME on SATURDAY June 5th.
If chosen as a scouting director, you should then post a MOCK ORGANIZATION DIARY in the fanpost section to start discussing your team's strategy. You should recruit an assistant/alternate to take over on draft day if you can't be there for some reason. You should conduct your MOD diaries in a fair manner, and I would prefer a collaborative approach rather than a dictatorial one in coming up with your draft lists and preferences.
You should assume realistic budgets for the team you are drafting for.
I will fill this list out as people volunteer

Oh, I ran them last year. I think I also ran the Phillies. Camden Depot. PNR Scouting.

If I am selected, certainly . . . I’ll have MOD up. Also, we’ll be moving through a 7 or so part series on draft prospects that are Oriole centric over at the blog and would love some conversation on that.
Also, check out PNR Scouting, that is Nick’s baby. He does some great work and has a good handle on a lot of players.

Should have refreshed . . . I am up. I’ll post a MOD.

Qualifications
I’m an A’s fan from the womb. I used to work for the organization and after that covered the draft for Scout.com. In the past few years I’ve watched the Minor League Ball mock from afar, contributing to the MOD threads here and there. This year the high school I teach at gets out a week earlier than in the past, giving me just enough time and energy to devote to this.

Jays please
i would like to run the Jays please.
by Bouncer on May 14, 2025 12:03 PM EDT reply actions
As a long time Jays fan, I believe that I have a very strong understanding of the current farm system and what the needs are moving forward. I also understand that last year was a bit of a disaster with regards to not signing picks and that we need to make sure that the same does not happen again this year. When competing with the Yankees and Red Sox you can’t afford to be blowing chances to add good talent.
by Bouncer on May 14, 2025 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions
just take a reliever
with sign-ability and you’ll have their draft strategy down pat.

Chad Bettis would fit the Moskosian mold I guess
Thanks John, I’ll get a MOD up sometime today.

Yanks Please
I’ve always been equally interested in their farm system as I’ve been with their major league team. I’ve done a shadow draft the last two years for the Yankees and I know a good amount about the draftees in this years draft.

I did the Brewers draft last year for the Mock, and am an avid poster on Brew Crew Ball.

Any provisions in place
To make the process move more quickly this year?
by backtocali on May 14, 2025 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions
Summary Executions
for drafters that take longer than 3 minutes to make a pick?
by backtocali on May 14, 2025 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions
Perhaps doing a force pick. Each selection has 2 minutes to make a pick in isolation. If no pick is made, then the open forum can throw names out there and the one the is most popular and makes sense gets selected. This should make it faster and help you out by not having to go back and forth from different organization personas.

I think that's generally how we've done it

Was it really a problem last year?
The first round started at 1PM (ET) and the third round ended at 3:48PM. That’s not too bad.
by jar75 on May 14, 2025 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, I can’t imagine it going faster than that.
by crawdaddy on May 14, 2025 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions
I seem to remember
A few points where it was very slow going. I think a couple of SD’s didnt even show.
I had 4 picks last year and had them all made inside of a minute.
by backtocali on May 14, 2025 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions
That's inevitable though
A few people will take longer than they should and a handful won’t show up. Hopefully it won’t happen this year, but it most likely will. I still think it moved at a pretty steady pace.

I can imagine how this will turn out.

Cubs
I’ve never done this before, so I’ll take them. Anyone want to be my assistant?

Qualifications
I’m a diehard Cubs fan and I’ve been following their minor league system for the better part of the past seven years. I know enough about this year’s amateur class to have a rough idea who the Cubs might consider, but I also don’t know it well enough to consider input from anyone who’s willing to provide it.

Red Sox please.

Had the Cards last year. Have been a Birds fan forever. Have followed the draft in depth since 2002. I have also done the Cubs and IIRC the Brewers in the Sickels mock.
I’m so qualified that I can tell you that the Cardinals will take Chad Bettis with the 46th overall pick and Jake Thomson sometime between rounds 2 and 4.

I'll take the Astros
I’m a Cubs fan but I’d love to take part in the Community Mock.
I’ve been studying this year’s draft prospects for a couple months now in preparation for my fantasy league’s yearly MiLB Draft.

Detroit Tigers please
I used to comment here a lot more than I do (under the name demondeaconsbaseball) but I’m the current minor league guy for the Tigers SB Nation page, Bless You Boys. I did the draft for Detroit last year, and I’d love to continue that trend.

Minnesota Twins Please
I am a huge Twins fan and have been following the minor leagues heavily for the last 3 seasons. I am a active in a Dynasty league where we follow prospects, including reading and following articles on Baseball America, Rotowire, and of course this site. I am also a Minnesota Twins season ticket holder if that has any bearing on being assigned with the Twins.

Qualifications
I am an Astros fan and a National League fan first and foremost, but I certainly follow the Rangers. I was the scouting director for Kansas City’s 2006 draft and like the Royals, I too passed on Evan Longoria and Tim Lincecum (I took Andrew Miller). I am a long-time fantasy baseball player and an regular reader of this blog.

Willing to fill in
I follow prospects from around the minors pretty closely but have the most interest in Dodgers’ guys. That said, someone already asked for the Dodgers so I’d be willing to fill in for any team that needs a scouting director. I’ve been following the draft pretty closely this year and gone out to see a lot of the guys in Socal, not that i’m going to pick just off who I’ve seen.

I'll do the Braves
Though, I’d be happy to do any team that needs one.

Has anyone
Considered doing a compilation of the mock drafts that have come out? Somebody did s spreadsheet with a bunch of the top prospects lists…… Was pretty cool, I think the mocks would be similarly cool…
