July 19th MiLB Thread
Good afternoon everyone!
Some pitchers to watch for today...
Michael Bowden, Jeremy Sowers, Andrew Carpenter, Brandon Hynick, Adam Ottavino, Bud Norris, David Purcey, Brandon Morrow, Daniel Moskos, Joe Savery, Travis Wood, Cesar Carrillo, Ben Hornbeck, Evan Anundsen, Cody Scarpetta, Matt Moore, Nick Hagadone
Please include those that I may have missed.
As always, post notable performances around the minors!
On another note, we have an opening in the Super Sickels Keeper League that was created before the start of this season with members who frequented this site. It is a deep 20 team league that is very challenging. If you think you have the desire and commitment to be a part of the league, please email me at deweyfinnbaseball@hotmail.com. Be sure to include your level of fantasy baseball experience. We want someone who knows their shit, haha. There are large major league and minor league rosters. Although the vacant team is currently in last place, there is A LOT of potential with some good young players for the future. To name a few, Carlos Pena, Travis Snider, Brad Hawpe, Daniel Murphy, Brian McCann, Alcides Escobar, Jed Lowrie, Ricky Nolasco, Oliver Perez, Shaun Marcum, Derek Holland, Vin Mazzaro, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Ervin Santana, Adrian Cardenas, Brad Holt, Jenrry Mejia, Jairo Heredia...

Off topic here a little, I am the commishioner of Baseball Heaven, and I need a great owner for the Baltimore Orioles
League just started up a couple months ago, and isn’t playing in 2009, but will start in 2010. League has some of the best owners from around this blog, leagues ive played in and others. Its a 16 team H2H points based with the buy in for next year being $25(going up the years after). Here is a link to the website.
http://baseballheaven.proboards.com/index.cgi
As you can see we have a great looking site and are looking for a new Baltimore Orioles team. The team is stacked with young talent, and needs an owner ready to take over and win!
Just to give you an insight on what we started with: each team kept 10MLB players and 5MILB players. We are finishing up both drafts(MLB and MILB) where we put together a 35 man roster complied of both MLB and MILB players. You have the option to add 5 more players for a complete 40 man roster.
My email is andrew.j.batson@gmail.com or my YIM: jombarii311 or AIM: fishingtilnoon
If you are interested please reach me through one of those sources. I am lookin for someone who is going to be on constantly and wants to make deals for a good up and coming orioles team.

grant desme
drafted in 07, basically missed 2 seasons w/ injury only 49 Abs over that time. So 09 is sort of his 1st full season. he is 23 and in low/high A but 20 hr/31sb’s isnt too bad.
If he stays healthy, maybe a promotion to AA by seasons end for that playoff stretch

Jemile Weeks
3-5 2 2Bs
"Their Triple-A rotation, led by Trevor Cahill and Brett Anderson, could be better than some big-league rotations; Michael Ynoa is the best Latin American prospect of the decade; 2008 draftees Jemile Weeks and Rashun Dixon bring much-needed tools to an advanced group of hitters." - BaseballProspectus.com

looked nasty in big league debut…sitting 95-96 and touching 98 with what looked like a pretty easy motion

latos
awesome stuff, I didn’t see an easy motion though. i hope he can keep it up and improve, he has an explosive fastball and the pads really need him.
by FRANCHISEv2 on Jul 20, 2025 11:43 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
In order for him to be effective
He has to keep the ball down. Most of his FB were up in the zone, he has the stuff to be good but ML hitters will kill the high FB ask Tommy Hanson.

Keep It Down
I totally agree…he was working high in the zone and was able to get away with it in most non Ian Stewart cases, but he’s going to have to work on that and incorparating his breaking stuff more effectively. Supposedly he was on a 75 pitch pitchcount, anyone know if that will remain the case for the season or if they’ll bump that up?

Ryan Tucker!
For those who have been inquiring about him - no, ne isn’t dead!- it just seemed that way
Made his second rehab start vs the kiddies in the GCL… and he was good too
5 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 5
Talk about a total sleeper prospect…. great at AA last year…throws 84-96 mph when I saw him. Makings of a good change, nice slider, 22 years old.
Almost COMPLETELY forgotten around these parts. His injury was to his knee and he seems fully recovered.

I got a question
is there any place I can find a list of specifically middle infielders that moved to catcher in the minors? My gut feeling is that a lot of teams try it out, but few of them become really prominent (Posada being the most prominent one I can think of).
