Looking for that deep sleeper
In a leaque that is very up to date on the farms, I have been searching the minors for that deep deep sleeper pitching prospect. Brought up Hernandez and Weiters and have two spots available. To give you an ideal of where in the pecking order I have to chose from Wily Peralta was my last pick up. I am really looking for arms as I cleaned house in the last draft as far as batters are concerned.

some...
bobby bundy, brad lincoln (reading a lot about him right now), arodys vizcaino (still far away), jj hoover (tho i don’t think he profiles as an ace), wilmer font (but hear he may profile as a reliever and i don’t like all the walks but he is VERY young), bryan price (really like this guy but needs to be promoted), jerry mejia, henry sosa (reading a lot about him lately, which to me signals that he’s breaking out)……

Cubs guys
I think Starlin is probably a sleeper for most people. He’s really raw, but has held his own in Daytona after a 3 level push. Very toolsy kid, Tim Wilken compared him to Tony Fernandez IIRC. Expectations are that he’ll stick at short.
That said, I think the OP was looking for pitching assets. I’m assuming you are looking for starting assets, so some Cubs guys currently in the minors that, IMO, are worth paying an eye on
(sleepers, granted, with the Cubs system, most everyone is a sleeper outside the top few)
AAA - Esmailin Caridad/Mitch Atkins - Fringe rotation options. Caridad showed better velo in Arizona out of the pen, so he might get shifted there.
AA -
Casey Coleman - I think he’s a possible middle of the rotation arm. Needs some more work, has 3 pitches, working on a cutter/slider supposedly to add to the mix. Legacy kid, hasn’t been fulltime pitching that long. 15th round last year.
Marcos Mateo - May end up in the pen, but has electric fast/slide combination.
High A -
Dan McDaniel - Power righty was dipped in from the pen last year in shortseason, but thrown into the rotation at Daytona. When on, good low 90’s sinker coupled with a curve and mixing in a change/slider/4 seamer.

Good point
I figured he just wanted to fill some spots.
One guy getting attention from the A’s corner is Ben Hornbeck. Doesn’t have the most amazing stuff, but he can locate his pitches very well, keeping the ball low to hitters. He was had a nice 47:10 K:BB ratio in 36 innings. We’ll see how he does when he is faces tougher hitters in AA.

Jeurys Familia
I’ve watched him in person three times this year and he’s going to surprise a lot of people. He’s topping out at 94 and holding his velocity deeper into games with each start. He also flashed a solid average change and breaking ball that have improved leaps and bounds over the past month. You can check out a game report on him below. He has improved a lot since then though.

I would look at three organizations
Texas, Cleveland and Boston. They all have really interesting guys flying under the radar who might get a lot more attention if they were in a bad system.
