What you fail to understand in your joyless myopia is that baseball is the key to life-- the Rosetta Stone, if you will. If you just understood baseball better all your other questions your, your... the, uh... the aliens, the conspiracies they would all, in their way be answered by the baseball gods.

He seems to be getting more votes than Knapp, and I have him as the 2nd best left so this will do for now. Knapp next.

Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

poor Chase d'Arnaud
Last few polls it seems he comes in second, but then the clique moves on to their next fave starter: hagadone, martin, now delagdo
by wobatus on Apr 1, 2026 4:21 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Not sure that's actually how it's gone
I mean Chase has been up there in the voting, but Hagadone was actually 2nd in the poll before he was voted on and Martin was only one vote back of Chase in the poll before he made the list. It’s not really a big group moving from guy to guy electing players. With Delgado, you’ve got a guy who voted for Martin in matthewmafa now voting for Delgado and a guy who had been voting for Knapp switching to his 2nd choice of Delgado for whatever reason. The support for Chase has been pretty consistent, and I actually have him right in this range on my own list, I just have 6 guys ahead of him on my list that haven’t made it on here yet so I can’t start voting for him at this point.

yeah
It has’t been the same people voting for these guys, just that usually a pitcher seems to catch the group’s fancy. jackson, Hagadone, Martin, now Delgado. A few polls ago Delgado was a little more back of him.
It’s no matter, really. I still want Desmond on after Chase, but seems consensus is he isn’t top 100. He has made a bunch of errors this spring, but I think he’ll have a nice year, if not on the order of his call-up in 2009.
by wobatus on Apr 1, 2026 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I guess
though we’ve only had 7 pitchers voted on in the last 25 polls coming into this one, so it’s probably just the fact that we have a few bunched right now that makes it seem that way. The last four polls Delgado’s been 1 vote, 3 votes, 2 votes, and 3 votes behind Chase respectively from polls #92-95, so they’ve been pretty close. The percentages make it seem like a bigger gap, because we’re getting only 40-50 votes per poll at this point.
As for Desmond, I’d rather have fellow Nats prospect Danny Espinosa-a guy I actually have ahead of Chase as well. Espinosa takes more walks and probably has as much if not more power than Desmond. Desmond may hit for the higher average of the two, but I can see Espinosa posting better OPS and wOBA numbers.

Curious on your thoughts
on Desmond vs. Espinosa.

Close
I prefer Desmond slightly. Espinosa has shown a lot of power, but I think Desmond has raw power as well. Frederick and I both posted some stuff about that in his top 100 thread.
Espinosa age 22 in high A:
.264/.375/.460, 27.2% k rate, 12.8% walk rate. ISO .196
Desmond at age 21 in high A (he was repeating, but the k rate was about the same as when he was 20):
.264/.357/.432, k rate 21.6, bb rate 10.6%, iso .168.
Espinosa’s line is slightly better, but the k rate worries me, and Desmond was younger.
They both supposedly have the glove tools, Desmond however, while rangey and a strong arm, is scatter-armed. I wonder if Espinosa will bulk up a bit though.
Since Desmond is closer, I just have a preference for him, but a lot to like about Espinosa.
Here is some blog piece on Desmond’s power. If the link works, his homer off Blanton in his debut was quite a shot.

there will be a runoff b/w them so we can see what the people voting for other players think.

I cannot believe Chase d'Arnaud is getting this much support
I like him as a prospect, but there is no way that I take him over Jose Iglesias, his brother, Flores or Knapp.

Why not?
Reasonable best case scenario, he’s a Brian Roberts type, worst case, he’s a Craig Counsell type. Either way, a pretty decent amount of value. And while I know a lot of folks don’t care much about this (because it doesn’t have reliable means of measurement or otherwise), his makeup leads me to believe he’ll overachieve.
Statistically, he did really well in some environments that aren’t great for hitters. He’s a good defender at 2B, good OBP, enough pop to keep pitchers honest, workhorse mentality, decent on the basepaths.

And I might add
That the community has historically underrated these types of players.

I think solid regular at 2B is best case scenario
That is a valuable prospect, but I don’t see any impact ability there.
I’d much rather have the elite defensive SS or the good defensive catcher who has a chance to be a bigger offensive threat.
by jar75 on Apr 2, 2026 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
i think he has more power, but less speed than Roberts
i think his best-case is like a 2007 Kelly Johnson… .276/.364/.457 … with slightly less power, and maybe slight more avg… and about 20 SB… that’s a very valuable player, but will he hit that and how long will his peak be?
I like him a lot, but can’t rate him above Iglesias
