Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread for Friday, May 12th, 2017. Let’s get started with our ongoing study of the best sport in the world..
****Today’s Minor League Scoreboard
****Highlights from yesterday can be found in the Thursday comments thread.
COOL STUFF THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY
****On Wednesday it was Jacob Faria racking up the strikeouts for Triple-A Durham. Yesterday it was teammate Brent Honeywell with the whiffs, fanning 10 in six innings against Columbus. The Tampa Bay Rays prospect now has a 4.05 ERA in 26.2 innings since being promoted to the International League, with an excellent 32/5 K/BB.
****Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Willie Calhoun went 3-for-5 with a home run for Triple-A Oklahoma and is now hitting .308/.341/.517 on the season. He’s made just two errors in 25 games but with a horrid 3.52 range factor, which fits reports that his reliability has improved but his flexibility/mobility up the middle remain problematic.
****Kansas City Royals right-hander Josh Staumont fanned 10 in five innings of work for Triple-A Omaha, giving him 52 strikeouts in 37 innings. He’s also walked 23.
****Colorado Rockies pitching prospect Jesus Tinoco retired the first 20 batters he faced yesterday for High-A Lancaster against Modesto in the California League, yielding just one hit in seven innings while fanning four. And that was in Lancaster!
