Highlights from yesterday’s Arizona Fall League

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread for Thursday, October 26th, 2017. Here are some highlights from yesterday’s slate of Arizona Fall League contests.

*****Washington Nationals catching prospect Taylor Gushue hit a home run off Boston Red Sox lefty Henry Owens to help the Mesa Solar Sox defeat the Peoria Javelias 6-3. Peoria catcher Alex Jackson from the Atlanta Braves system homered in the losing cause, his fifth homer of the AFL season.

*****Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Victor Reyes (3-for-5, three runs scored) and Colorado Rockies prospect Yonathan Daza (3-for-4, one walk) both had strong games for the Salt River Rafters in their 8-2 win over Scottsdale. New York Yankees infield prospect Thairo Estrada went 4-for-5 for the Scorpions.

*****Cleveland Indians prospect Francisco Mejia went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for the Glendale Desert Dogs but this wasn’t enough, as the Dogs fell to the Surprise Saguaros 6-4. Kansas City Royals infield prospect Nicky Lopez, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Mercado, and Tampa Bay Rays infielder Brandon Lowe all went 2-for-4 to lead the Surprise offense.

IN THE PIPELINE

I am researching the Atlanta Braves Top 20 prospects list today. I had initially planned on doing the Prospect Retros for Brandon Morrow and Marwin Gonzalez today, however I got just two hours of sleep last night. I am not typing or writing especially well at the moment, so this will be a research day. We’ll hit the Retros tomorrow.

The next teams in line after the Braves are the Royals, Dodgers, Astros, Cubs, Yankees, and Diamondbacks in that order. We began the Kansas City organization discussion yesterday.
