Matt Bush arrested in Florida
Matt Bush allegedly hit a 72 year old man riding a motorcyle and left the scene. it appears alcohol might be involved.
i really do root for guys to learn the hard lessons of their youth and work things out, especially when they have an opportunity to do something that so many of us would give our non-throwing arms to do. but Matt seems to have not learned any lessons and i have to think this will be the end of his baseball career.

You can add Adam Kennedy to that list of 2011 too.
Or not, because, Adam Kennedy.

I think
it’s gonna take an MLB player killing someone for the MLB & MLBPA to do anything about it if Bush doesn’t prompt them to.

maybe they should incorporate the DUI into the drug testing, ie DUI=50 game ban

?
Do players get DUIs more than the average 18-25 year olds? There are 1.4 million DUI/DWI arrests made each year in this country, and something like 1% of drivers. It seems like baseball has less of a problem than society at large

what an idiot, seriously
being good at baseball is the only thing that’s keeping this guy fyrom being a total and complete wreck. I think the Rays/MLB should really do something about this.

Rays Definitely Have Taken Fliers On Guys with Makeup Issues lately
I mean, if I was a GM, even with his talent, Bush was a PR nightmare in San Diego. Was a big-time bust as the No. 1 pick, and then he had a couple of arrests, including one that was embarrassingly videotaped and showed on national news stations. Then, he was released from the Jays after he failed their zero tolerance policy with alcohol (which I think was just with him). That’s just a ton of issues. Sure there are the Josh Hamiltons of the world who bounce back after a ton of issues in the past, but I don’t think Bush has put in the work that Hamilton has.
Furthermore, they also picked up Josh Lueke, who basically cost some people in the Mariners front office their jobs, and almost cost Jack Z’s after that whole rape allegation. I really hope for the Rays organization that the justice system works out and the Rays can get rid of Bush. Talented arm for sure, no doubt about it, but it’s a PR nightmare for a team that already has issues generating a fan base as it is.

jury’s still out on that one. Hamilton’s substance abuse issue dwarf Bush’s.

A DUI is an isolated, very poor choice. Addiction is a disease.
Matt Bush’s DUI and fleeing the scene speak far worse for his character than Josh Hamilton’s struggle with drug addiction does for his.
