add
edwar Cabrera to the discussion for pitcher of the year.

I was kidding with that but Jurickson Profar deserves a real look. One of the best full season debuts in a while.

Oscar Hernandez....... for both.
jk
Moore and Profar/Trout for me.

Teheran
Trout
Andrelton Simmons
Joey Terdoslavich
Profar
Brandon Drury
Ok. That’s enough. And no I am not a homer, but these are some guys that I noticed but up unbelievable stats
God has to bruise you before he use you. So you'll be sensitive to his touch.

Ok, I was a little homer on Simmons lol
He did have good numbers, not Player of the league numbers though. But the others ones i would vote for even if they were a part of another organization

He won't win, but...
I think Eric Surkamp should at least be on the list. Dominant season in AA, just got his first win in the majors. His upside is more limited than others who will be on this list, but I think he should be recognized.
Mr. Flibble is very cross.

names not yet mentioned
Goldschmidt
Harper (if Profar’s debut gets mention, so should Harpers)
Shelby Miller
Ryan Lavarnway
though I’d agree, it’s likely a runaway win for Trout and Moore.

Others not yet mentioned
(I second Goldschmidt, Harper):
Dustin Ackley
Brett Lawrie
Jose Altuve
Devin Mesoraco
Gary Brown
Plenty of deserving players this year.

Well
Ackley, Lawrie, and Altuve, all didn’t get a whole season’s plate appearances, but they all got 300+ and batted over .900 OPS in the upper minors from valuable defensive positions. So depending on where you put the cutoff for eligibility they would be in the conversation right?
I do think it’s pretty clearly Trout though.

I feel like a genius for trading Aaron Hicks for Moore in my fantasy league when Moore had a high ERA in april :D

Is at the top of my list. It’s Minor League Player of the Year… no need to put his MLB stats into play.

Nestor Molina
130.1IP, 2.21ERA, 16BB, 148K, .234opponent avg, he’s had a truly ridiculous year and if anything has improved as the season has gone on. Maybe not the best prospect, but i’d argue he’s had near the best results this year. Will be fun to see his playoff start this week, as he’ll be off his innings limit for the first time.

Everything I’ve read about him has been impressive… 16BBs in 130.1 IP is amazing.

Love Molina as well!
Short list for arms after him:
Matt Moore

Catricala
Raked to the tune of .351/.421/.574 in half a season at high desert, had the whole world screaming “INFLATED”, went up to Jackson and OUTDID himself for a second half of .347/.420/.632. Hard not to take him seriously anymore.

Starling Marte
Led the EL in batting, posting a .332/.370/.500 line; he also added a ton of value on the field, and a bit on the bases. Not a surefire candidate, but I figured his name was worth mentioning, given some of the other ones that have come up.

Marte definetely belongs on this list
BCB, his home field, is a pitcher’s park. Yet Marte took a major step forward in the second half of the year when he began to hit for more power than he had in the past. Marte is becoming — or has become! — one of those five tool guys who actually produce on the field.
Of course, I’m a Pirates fan, so this is all plainly obvious to me!

But are we extra impressed due to his performance in the majors?
He did everything that was asked of him in AAA this season, so perhaps not.

. . . . oh wait, you meant most valuable to his OWN team? sorry, was thinking you meant MVP for the opposing lineup.

Oscar Taveras
Just 18 years old for the first half of the season, finished with an insane Midwest League slash line of .386/.444/.584.
First MWL hitter of ANY age to bat .380+ in more than fifty years, and is a solid defender in either CF or RF. (No platoon issues, either, as he hit .360 & slugged .593 vs. lefties.)
Will win multiple MLB batting titles, starting in 2014, while adding 70+ XBH’s annually in his prime.
by Mekonsrock on Sep 8, 2025 5:24 AM EDT reply actions
Oh, one more thing
Sorry, forgot to add that, according to B-Ref, of the 28 Midwest Leaguers who slugged at least .460 ths year, Taveras had the second lowest strikeout rate.

Not sure how low in the minors we can look...
…but Drew Hutchison deserves to be in the conversation.
Progressed two levels this year, finishing at AA. Only got better the higher he went, averaged over 10 K/9 and around 2 BB/9, with a FIP averaging close to 2.
There really has been a lot of great talent in the minors this season, good to see so many options.

If it’s not Profar it’d be hard to ignore Liriano and Tavaras…then there’s also JD Martinez before he was promoted and Starling Marte as well…

if you are doing short season POY,
Danny Muno absolutely killed it in the NYP league to the tune of a .459 w/OBA. obviously we’ll need to see him succeed at A/AA next yr, but is there legit reason to get excited about him yet?
