2011 Minor League Ball Community Mock Draft Begins at Noon CDT

The 2011 Minor League Ball Community Mock Draft begins at Noon CDT. All scouting directors need to show up by noon promptly, at which time a new thread will be created for the draft itself. We will go through the first round, first round supplemental, second, and third rounds. Each round will have its own thread.

Well someone at my work got arrested for driving without a license. And guess who gets to take over his shift!?!? ME! I will be here at 2 PM EST. Not sure how long these things normally run so I could come back to help out towards the tail end of it maybe. I apologize for this obviously this was a unforeseen incident for all mortals. My memory may be faulty

But I believe that last year’s mock lasted about 3 hours, with the first round going on for about 1 hour. Anybody else remember differently?

Cubs and Tigers

Right now I’m taking over both the Cubs and the Tigers, and I’m not quite sure if it’s okay to draft for two teams. If it’s fine, then that’s great! If not, I’d rather give up the Tigers than the Cubs.

Even if you believe that he is the second coming of Alex Rodriguez…and even if you have insider information guaranteeing that Bobby Heck and Ed Wade have him #1 on their draft board…. If you draft Lindor for the Astros I will track you down… I will find you… yada… yada… yada…

Not that I’ve reiterated my Astros-draft-Lindor-o-phobia (a very common phobia among HOU MiLB fans) … Have a fun one - looking forward to following along!

And BTW...

A couple of Heck-Wade 2nd-5th round picks are almost assuredly going to seem to come out of nowhere. As deep as this draft is, I doubt it’ll be their 2nd rounder, but’d be willing to bet they do so with their 3rd rounder. Think it’d be fun to see you pick a non-top 200 guy here (along with your reasoning). A little creative license so to speak (and not like doing so would be unprecedented for Heck-Wade).

Apparently, Cole to the Pirates and Rendon to the M's

Dejan Kovacevic of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette hears that the Pirates will select UCLA right-hander Gerrit Cole with the first overall pick in Monday’s amateur draft (subs. req’d). ESPN’s Buster Olney says (on Twitter) that other teams anticipate the Mariners will select a position player with the second overall pick. Based on recent rumors, Rice third baseman Anthony Rendon would seem likely

Stupid question time...

Is this a draft based on a legit budget or is it just going to be BPA? Are people drafting with the idea that some picks are not protected and going for a hard sign in those picks is just not going to happen?

I love the idea of having a mock, but if everyone is just going to draft BPA regardless of $$ it kills the exercise.

Here's some news from Frankie Piliere

Astros are “working hard” to get a pre-draft deal done with Stanford LHP Chris Reed. That would be a shocker, especially after all the “Archie Bradley” talk we heard with them.

I don’t think I’m gonna be taking Reed when I pick for the ’Stros, but that is some info that could impact the budget I have in mind.
