2011 Minor League Ball Community Mock Draft: Scouting Directors

Use this thread to volunteer for scouting director assignments. Please state your qualifications and level of interest, so that if two people put in for the same team at the same time i have something to make a decision by. This is first-come, first-serve generally speaking.

Remember, you MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE MOCK DRAFT at NOON CENTRAL TIME on SATURDAY June 4th.

If chosen as a scouting director, you should then post a MOCK ORGANIZATION DIARY in the fanpost section to start discussing your team's strategy. You should recruit an assistant/alternate to take over on draft day if you can't be there for some reason. You should conduct your MOD diaries in a fair manner, and I would prefer a collaborative approach rather than a dictatorial one in coming up with your draft lists and preferences.

You should assume realistic budgets for the team you are drafting for.

The only class of people

in the world who make up more transaction rumors than interweb message board posters are scouts from other organizations!

I think in the two years I was regularly interviewing scouts and player development guys who were out in the field for their clubs, they collectively gave me one tip about another organization that wasn’t utter fiction. :)

As I posted above, I’ve wanted to take part in this excercise. I’ve been a long time poster and prospect follower. I’m acive in dynasty leagues and am very knowledgable about the minor ranks of teams, especially the Reds. Hopefully, I will be allowed to take part with John’s approval.

I already have a fanpost up on McCoveyChronicles that should be easy to adapt and update for the purposes of the MOD for this mock draft. It’s 2 weeks old and has over 200 comments, so we’ve gottne a lot of good inputs from a variety of Giants fans. I’m sure that they’ll be happy to participate in the MOD over here too.

Crawdaddy usually does them, and I suspect he wants to do them again this year, and should do them again if he wants. But if he’s unavailable or not interested, I will do them (although I may have to name a proxy for the third round).

Toronto/Tampa?

It seems there is a lot of interest in Toronto - so if I am unable to get in for my home team, I’d love to draft for my 2nd favourite team, the Rays. I have done annual draft recaps on Jays forums and spend six hours a day (I know, it’s depressing!) reading about prospects and upcoming players. I have wanted to do one of these for a long time and would love to be a part of this on such a fantastic site.

From John's post about it:

“The Mock Draft will begin on Saturday, June 4th, at 12:00 PM Central Time. It will run through three rounds. That means round 1, and the supplemental rounds, all the way through round 3. Teams will select in the order that they select in the real draft. The Scouting Director for each club will be responsible for making the choice in the connecting thread, with the thread moderated by me”
